They may want too, but they can't really afford too.

This show of unity they've been displaying until now will quickly unravel once the corporate lobbyists (all 30,000 of them) clash with the federalists in the parliament. We're one of the biggest export markets for pretty much every European industry you can think of.

Re EU citizen's rights to remain in the EU once we have left, I saw this post in another forum and it seems very accurate :)

It's amazing that the EU can refuse a very fair offer on citizen rights whilst taking the moral high ground, Joseph Goebbels would be proud. I bet those remainers who have criticised May for not sorting it out sooner (because the EU obstructed it) still take the EU's side.

The EU cannot be negotiated with because they're like children who want everything their own way.

500,000 migrants came here in the last 12 months so they obviously have confidence in an independent UK; now we just need 500k of the anti-UK remainers whose loyalty lies elsewhere to go the other way....

Or just less confidence of where they're coming from?

Something I heard recently that was interesting is that the UK has always had the ability to restrict immigration based on criteria (skills etc) but we've never implemented this. Why not I wonder? Cost to do so? Or is it because the more people working here = more taxes and the government is actually better off?

During the whole Brexit referendum I read we were turning away skilled non-eu citizens (doctors, nurses, it tech, etc) to accommodate the 'free movement' of EU citizens (even though some were clearly not skilled). It is my belief that this is how we 'controlled' our immigration numbers.
