Applecross Invasion 2015

Well guys, after the successful trial run in 2014 I am ecstatic to reveal that Applecross 2015 is GO!!!

How it began

First off for all the new members and as a refresher for the longer standing members, here is the thread from last year.

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?308297-Applecross-Invasion-%28Pictures-added%29&highlight=APPLECROSS

Okay so by now you have hopefully checked out the above thread, and if you are continuing to read on then I am assuming you are interested. Basically last year was more of a trail run if anything, with the focus on learning from the trip and using it to allow us to build upon the good points so that we could offer a greater experience in 2015, for all attending.

So without further adieu, I present you all with the information needed for you all to make a choice between having a good year and a Fricken Awesome One!!! :D.

Day 1

This trip will see us leaving from Glasgow headed up the A82 towards Fort William with a small stop at the Green Welly to pick up Breakfast. This first days driving will see us reach our first nights resting point in the form of Dornie (Eilean Donan Castle). Dornie is the perfect spot to stop as the its close to Applecross and the Skye Bridge.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Xs...!2d57.4325!3e0

Last year we did Applecross and headed back to Dornie with ease, and this seems to be a good option once again. Dornie has a few nice Pubs and amenities and the locals were welcoming.

Accommodation: We really have 2 Options for this, pitching at the campsite or staying in a B&B across from the site. I will go further into pricing etc at the end of the thread.

Day 2

We shall set off after breakfast across the Skye Bridge onwards to Skye.

We have decided that this day will be more of a rest/sightseeing day. Last year we kinda felt a bit frazzled after all the driving on day one, and with the enthusiasm growing with every mile drive, a real level of concentration is required, as Marcus will tell you all :D.

So this day will involve driving in the morning section, but more emphasis on non driving activities. What are these activities I hear you say? Please allow me to oblige:

Dunvegan Castle: http://www.dunvegancastle.com/content/default.asp?page=s2

This site gives lots of options: http://www.isleofskye.com/skye-guide/top-ten-skye-walks/old-man-of-storr

And of course we will have plenty of time to take some pictures of our cars in unique and vary landscapes :).

The main idea behind this new part of the trip is to give us time to chill, rest and to allow us to socialise with the group. The driving is great and is what this trip is mostly about, but a break will allow us to focus our efforts for the drive home on day three.

Accommodation Camping options available as well as B&B.

Day Three

This will see us heading home after breakfast, but not the same way we entered Skye.

We will be driving down to South of Skye where we will reach the ferry crossing at Armadale, loading our cars onto the boat and hopping off at Mallaig. Once at Mallaig, we shall be presented with a very nice stretch of tarmac in the form of the A830, which will lead us back towards Fort William and then onwards back to Glasgow where the trip will complete.

Costing:

Accommodation A: Basically the standard option of camping both nights will come out at approx £30-£35

Accommodation B: Both nights in B&B work out around £70-£80.

Activities for Day 2: Basically we are thinking of going on a speedboat trip through the cullin mountains and hopefully seeing some wildlife on the way, including the potential whale or dolphin!

This will cost £30 per head and be paid along with accommodation/ ferry deposit before the date of travel :)

Obviously we can do separate things on day 2 but its good to keep in a group and make a decision collectively. If you guys would prefer to visit a distillery or go for a walk and few drinks then this is something we can discuss.

Fuel Useage: Last year saw us all manage the trip well with-in the 2 tanks of fuel mark so budget for £150 on fuel.

Closing Statement:

This trip is open to all members New and Old, the more the merrier with the only stipulation being, you must have fun and use your Supra the way it was made to be driven :D.

I will be tweaking the thread in the coming week, but this is the main body on info. The date is provisionally set to the 19th August with an option in Sept that may be discussed. Awaiting my glorious assistants return from Cyprus.

:D

Further information on accommodation.

Accommodation, day 1

Dornie camp site & b&b

A 10 min walk from the pubs of dornie, the campsite offers basic toilets and a shower with hard standing parking available if no caravan is using it, and alternatively parking on grass (inch of grass covering stones so not a problem)

A large tent will be provided to attempt to fit everyone in, however you are free to bring your own tent, should you wish to. The camping fee will be less than £10 per head.

The camp site has a b&b directly opposite for anyone that wants to stay there. Booking early will no doubt apply though to avoid disappointment

Here is their website, looks to be about £32-£64 per night per person depending on room selected.

http://www.caberfeidh.plus.com

There is also a 2nd b&b a stones throw away from it. If it is needed I will get details for it on request.

Accommodation day 2.

Skyewalker hostel

Day two will see us feel the force that surrounds us, by staying at the one and only Skyewalker hostel in carbost, ranked number one in Scotland and complete with our own communal dorm and 2 optional double Jedi cabins "R-2" & "D-2" handy for couples etc. :limp:

Cost of this will be around £20 (final pricing will come after we have numbers and then a deposit will be paid to secure your booking)

http://www.skyewalkerhostel.com

The hostel is in portnalong and b&b/ hotel info can be found here;

The rowans b&b

http://www.therowansonskye.com/

And taigh ailean hotel

http://www.taighailean.scot/

There is also a few b&b' s in carbost very close to the rebel base (7 min drive). These should be booked yourself if you think the camping on the first night (b&b in dornie) or staying in the hostel on the 2nd (b&b in carbost) won't suit you and would prefer to sort yourself out.

Details can be found here;

http://www.roomfinderscotland.co.uk/accommodation/carbost.php

Please note that for camping and hostel options you will need a sleeping bag and roll mat.

From here we are 10 min drive to the area where we can walk to the fairy pools

Or alternatively a 45 min min drive away from the start of the walk to the old man of storr; used in numerous films including most recently Prometheus.

looking good guys, Ryan Ford is going also but I will refrain from starting lists yet as I'll wait for this to settle and for us all to organise our life's to include the trip :).

Marcus will be adding to the details at some point shortly, and the official stickers will be supplied to each attendee :D.
