Cheers much appreciated, I need to get a bit organised/motivated, the lock down provides some opportunity to do some stuff in preparation for when it's over. I could do more but a lot of my Supra spares stash/tools etc is at the parents place and unfortunately I can't spend too much time over there at present as Dad is vulnerable to the Virus due to the meds he's on. I can get the odd bit from there when I drop them food but I don't like doing jobs away from the tools as however prepared you try to be and whatever you take to do a job there is nearly always a tool you end up really needing, which either stops you in your tracks or frustrates the process. Nightmare place to try and work on the car. If I forgot a tool, which I always did, it would be a 15 -20 minute round trip to get it. I get that, I need the lock down to end! Where I am the kitted Supra can't get up the drive (doh!), so occasionally lives in a lay by out front but mainly stays at the folks place, so a bit out of sight out of mind, especially at the drab times of year. New Beemer does get up the drive so is getting the attention during lockdown and have to say I really like it, much more than I ever thought I would. It's a decade of development on and not made to be 'raw' so it's probably perfect for my more cruising self these days. It's nice to have while I try and work on getting the Supra more presentable. It’s been a year since i sprayed my active spoiler blade with the Eastwoods plastic resurfacer and I can honestly say it still looks like it did the day i first did it, hasn’t faded at all, no chips. I did use the Pre painting prep cleaner as it was recommended on the video clip I watched about using this stuff, you are correct I did sand my spoiler blade as well like you did with different grades of fine wet & dry emery paper. I found this stuff different to paint also and I’m tempted to do other parts like your on about as the blade came out so well. I must invest in a electroplating kit so I can start refurbish parts like that, been looking at getting a kit like this for quite some while now but just kept putting it off! Think my minds made up now after seeing what you’ve done with it. Andrew, can you remember what grades of wet and dry you used and how many coats of each you done? Can’t quite remember what grades of wet and dry paper I used now but pretty sure I used 600 then 800 then finished with 1200 (my blade was in a bad state and had to repair a small split) I only give it one coat of the cleaner then 3 costs of the resurfacer. 1 can of each will be plenty if just doing the spoiler blade. It's not terrible, but needs an all over polish and touch up of paint chips on front and rear bumpers, bin the TRD wing that's dying/cracking and fit the stock wing, all uk brakes swap, get my trd diff down to James (theturtleshead) to swap the NA flange to a TT then fit, engine bay tidy up.......won't take that long and should transform it, but the paint on certain panels does fade fairly quickly so I'm going to try and get a good wax on after the polish. I have replaced the front rear-subframe cushions from the pre-facelift to the facelift versions. It wasn't too onerous. As before, there is quite a marked difference between the two cushions versions. The pre-facelift has much compliance than the facelift. The facelift also has a nylon liner, unlike the pre-facelift. I do feel old, but the doctor said its good to still be regular! But yeah some old names drift back on at times, but not for long I still log on most days, but it's generally quiet now. I still try and use my memory to help those with issues I know have been talked about and hence I can find them easier, but the search engine makes that harder now it's semi corrupted. But forum use is waning, the BMW forum has a few "Scooters" in them but traffic is lower than here in the 6 series specific sub forum. I think anyone over 4-5 years is a bit of a forum older timer. The first thing was the motor. I've got a few motors so this first job was to test the motors. They worked so I picked one and took it apart. It very quickly brings back a very nice finish on aluminium. I then spray the part with Halfords satin lacquer. Yes, I did sand the spoiler before painting. I got a 3L2 coded one for some chips on the front bumper, these are no longer "stick out like a sore thumb white" but are too light a shade.
