Does the sound work on any other internet sites peter?

I know you said you checked the volumes but not sure if this would show anything muted

1. Click "Start".

2. Select "Run".

3. Type: sndvol32

4. Click "OK".

5. Make sure the following are not muted and the volume is up for "Volume Control" and "Wave".

Have you installed any updates recently? Its a bit drastic, but you could try doing a system restore to a few days back when it was ok. You wont lose any date. Go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, system restore

After saving the file, go to START > RUN > and type 'regedit' and then click OK

In the registry, select FILE > IMPORT and select the "missing.reg" file from your desktop

You should get a confirmation that it was imported successfully.

This is an instant fix ... your speakers should now work for web sounds, no reboot required.
