Infact the current draw will be higher, to calculate the current on AC you cannot simply divide the power by the voltage. You have to consider the power factor
Not on domestic electrical installation as far as I am aware, although I do admit it was a few years ago I did the course !
Surely this wouldn't apply to a resistive load ?
Please enlighten me if I have missed something critical but I can't remember this being a factor on domestic work ??

Hi m8,
assuming you have a modern distribution unit, you will be using a 32A mcb & the 6mm will be fine unless it's a rediculous long run (not worked it out but I doubt that will be an issue).
IF you have an old fuseboard:
1: get shot & have it replaced so you get RCD protection
2: Still no problem with the above because your 30A fusewire will be protecting a cable that can handle 38A (if I remember correctly)
No way would both of them running flat out bust a 30A fuse, well it would take hours (again it could be calculated but i don't have the formulae handy).
in a sentence: Yep do it
Just as another point, your 15.56A was obviously worked out on the stated 230v, i bet if you meter your suply you get nearer 240v which brings the load down to 15A max

Are you saying you don't all go to church on Sundys
Know what you mean too, i also enjoy my work but can't win on sundays, if I do too much I feel like it's just another workday, if i do sodall I feel it's a wasted day.
Today ... 2 rides out in the skyline, dismantled the dash & fitted a speed calibration chip, washed it & cleaned it out. then i did wash the supra cos it looked all upset with those big eyes cos i was making a fuss of the skyline
-
just to upset all you early risers even more :eek2:
I usually crawl out of bed around 8:15, stagger to the bathroom & then wander downstairs.
"'er indoors" has usually got my cuppa ready by then & i can relax for half hour before the gruelling 2.5 miles to my workshop along the by-pass
Usually arrive at work by 9:15am & hae even been known to do some work before 10am on really bad days !!
i can live with it cos i did years & years of 2am - 3am & 4am starts, so now i'm old I can semi retire :littled:

Knowing there's a few here with errr "alternative" humour, this might raise a smile
I pinched it from another forum but it struck me as funny

Cheers Peeps
I will look, read & try to learn.
Can't quite understand how an N/A engine can produce more power than a stock TT without a replacement HG to lower compression, unless I'm reading their data wrong ??
Anybody know what would be a safe boost to run on the T61 kit without changing the HG ??

Hi M8,
Sorry for the delay, been busy at work today & not had a chance to do it until now !
Will upload it as soon as the email has finished

Yeah no probs m8, email it & i will upload it for ya

Hornet:
yeah it's got HICAS & i think I can feel the difference, but this is the only skyline i have driven so it would feel different to the soop. Slung it round a few roundabouts & it seems ok, just high speed cornering seems "different".
PMSLa taxi signgot some posh taxi's where yo come from m8, best we have here is a C5 citroen & a beat up old 218 rover ....... dunno which is more awful
-
Hi m8,
Yep GTS-T
I am the same with skylines, dont know much but wouldn't a 93L be a R33 ??? Maybe not, all this R32/R33 stuff is beyond me & i just liked the condition of it & bought it.
No pics of the front yet, just took a quickie today cos a mate of mine demanded a pic right now !!
All I know is that it's a 2.5 single turbo & is quicker than my supra
Well, the wife was driving the supe behind me coming home & every roundabout I left her
Not got the same looks though
-
of course I still have my supra & will for a long time yet, love it to bitz
But, got bored with the WRX wagon we imported in September & decided to go for something a bit different
Got it today & all i have to wait for now is the MOT tuesday & reg it, hope to be blasting it by next wekeend (did drive it home on T/plates so I have had a "fix")

See how long before a mod removes this filthy picture of a S**lin*

Hi techies
Was thinking today (oh dear)
IF the 3.0 N/A supra lump is strong enuf to stand a dose of nitrous regularly (which according to most, it is).
Would it be worth the hassle of adding a small single turbo to give it an extra litte bit of grunt ?? loads of cheap blowers around these days & a rebuilt one should do the job I guess ?
Like many others, I don't "need" loads more power, but a little shot sometimes would help, maybe only 3-4 lb boost ??
Any thoughts ??

Time to confess (NO laughing)
1st road car: 4 yr old Skoda S110 saloon (rear engined poo). In fairness to the little thing, I just couldn't blow it up !! beleive me, I tried HARD
2nd: ford Cortina 1600XL Mk3, Pure luxury it seemed
3rd: Pontiac Firebird
Bit like a 1975 supra really
see .... I started on the supra trail long ago
sold the FB when we got married & went thru probably a hundred heaps of scrap with a few gems thrown in amongst them (jags, daimlers, Chevy, fiats, alfa, ......not had a roller - YET)

thanks ofr all the replies peeps
I did wonder if they had died a death, what with ebay being so popular now.
Better go to one or two & take a look for meself
-
Anybody been to one recently ?
I havn't for ages, using ebay more than anytihng else to make purchases, just wondered if this has killed the fairs dead or if they are still worth going to (as a buyer or trader) ?
-
Most have probably seen these, but for my own amusement
Hi, i have just found out that I have won a prize of a 2 week holiday in the sun for me & 4 friends. £500 spending money each is included. As we've been friends for so long, I was wondering if you could put my bin out next wednesday.

hi m8, just been arrested for being the ugliest bastard in the country, could you come to the nick to prove they are wrong !
----------------------------------------------------------------
I thought I saw your name on the side of a loaf of bread the other day, but when I read it again it said THICK CUT
---------------------------------------------------------------
Hi m8, found a lovely prostitute the other night, she charges by the inch. I can't afford her but would make a cheap shag for you
-
Well done m8, if they are straight with you then you did the right thing.
i have had one cracker that might bring a smile to some faces (YES I was dishonest)
When i was elec contracting, one of my big customers screwed me for £600, blaming 2 of my lads for doing "damage" (completely untrue - i was there !).
I took it like a man
2 months or so later, they made a clerical error & paid me twice on a £1350 job ....... NO i said nothing & took it as a gift from above for their greed (and the lads got a crackin christmas party that year
)
Basically I'm honest but just this once
-
Cheers jonshaw, will take a ride to WHs this week, bet the buggers have sold out
-
Me too
Another of the poor self employed, working for customers that want the earth for peanuts
Over a week of playing with the computer, driving the supra & eating well (rarely drink - boring old fart) ............... so i go back to work in a supra, play with the other computer & get a sandwich at lunchtime
Maybe it's not so bad
I wish... up at 4 to leave the yard at 5now that brings back memories, left that game full time in 96 & don't miss it (much). Still do the odd little job for a mate & it's a real pleasure to know it's not a daily task ;-)
-
Many thanks to Monkey, Dark & Jake.
Still cant get the bloody thing to read them, but i think it must be the crappy burning software i got with the DVD. Will look back at jakes site & see what they recommend.
Thanks for the email too Dark - brilliant
-
Cheers Darkrider
i did spend all yesterday evening reading & more reading, but it only gets worse
There is just so much to learn & I think i'm too old or too dense to take most of it in.
I did look at Nero that came with my CD burner & it's got an option to "make a video cd that will play in most players" takes ages to "convert the file, so I assume its doing something. The only bit I dont understand is the vertical green bands, the same file plays perfectly on the PC but even after converting it doesn't on the (home) DVD.
Is it all a question of anti piracy measures ? A lot of the clips I have came via shareaza etc
I'm NOT too lazy to read & learn but theres far more information on that site than I need to know !!! I read all the help stuff but most of it seems to be aimed at those wanting more than I do.
Maybe somebody here could suggest a program that woould do the job, would make life so easy
Thanks Peeps
-
Cheers jake, yer a star
Half an hour of google searching & all i could find was more technical stuff that i don't need to know.
Thanks
-
Well, this is the O/T forum & i do own a supra, so suppose I can post here without getting shot
I have got a normal cheapo DVD plaer on the TV
Got a (new) DVD burner in the PC
Got loads of .avi files that I love to download & watch.
Tonight I thought I would get clever & burn some to watch later on the DVD .......... WRONG
the DVD wouldn't look at the .avi file so after twiddling with some software I thought converting it to mpeg would do the trick ..... wrong again. This time the DVD saw it & it did play but with a few nice big vertical green bands down the screen (presumably anti-piracy)
Is there a simple answer ??
I would buy software to do it but don't know what I need.
Sorry it's a bit long & posted in muppet language, but I really know nothing about DVD
thanks for any advice you can offer
Domestic Electrical Question?

Posted
Hope we helped in some little way Paul
FWIW, I would do it & not have any problem with doing it for myself or anybody else.
merckx might have a "technical" point but as i said above, in quite a few years of domestic contracting I can't ever remember a problem. Your cable is rated @ 38A & you're protecting it with a 30A wire, the chances of that wire blowing are on the borders of zero - trust me
