What a relief - performance test.

Hi Guys, For the past three weeks post my replacement cylinder head gasket i have been just taking it easy, no real "Blasts".

I know technically a head gasket should not really need a settling down period as in the old days you had to re -tighten the head bolts as they could stress relieve, but not with today's bolts.

 

Anyway yesterday i did my "blast" and the starting was spot on,tick over perfect and up to the Mway on A roads all seemed ok., but when i joined the Mway, which was quiet i got the boot down and the power was not as i remembered pre the gasket job, also the exhaust note was deeper, at circa 5,000 RPM, and the screamer valve noise had stopped. For the very first time since the NAT conversion i actually floor boarded the accelerator to get anywhere near the top speed i had been used to, it was still quite quick but no where near what it used to be?

 

So i left the Mway and drove home thinking where would i find the nearest mapper, and could i have set the ignition timing too retarded? i was well p---sed off.

 

I drove into my driveway and lifted the bonnet, just hoping that there might be some thing obvious wrong and there was, the boost pipe had blown off the die cast air intake throttle body, the clip was loose and there was a 25mm gap. I was mega chuffed, i just de-greased the inside of the rubber pipe and the intake to the throttle body, then put two new clips on.

The other good news is that basically i was driving my old NA and when i went back out with the problem fixed i realized the magic of the turbo boost, i had my "rocket ship" back. Herbie.
