Urgent coolant help appreciated

Hi all,

Just on a long journey and notice my coolant reservoir is virtually empty.

I’ve found a Halfords: what coolant can I get from there please that would be suitable?

Do you refill at the reservoir at the front of the engine bay, or into the radiator please? The internet has confused me.

When its cool enough you fill the radiator where the rad cap fits and fill the reservoir where its cap fits, the rad should be full to its neck and the reservoir around 1/2 way to 3/4

When you've topped both up, run the engine with the rad cap off to help it bleed out any air, do it with the heater

on max hot, have some rags around the rad neck as coolant will bubble out, needs to be hot enough to get the stat to open

so around 80c, top the rad up and fit the cap

Will the silicate free ethelyene glycol based Halfords stuff do?

Check the pipe from the rad neck that goes to the reservoir is clear, also have a look at the rad cap, is it the original one ? they are a common cause of coolant problems,

Halfords might have one and its a cheap part to replace

It looks like it’s escaping from the pipe from the bottom of the rad, at the end closest to the manifold

Thats where it goes to thermostat
