Hello all,

My name is Steve I have joined the forum for quite sometime, I am finally looking to get a car. Always liked th idea of a mk4 supra. Recently rekindled my interest after looking at the mkV.The MKV 5 looks awesome to me, I am not too fussed about it being a BMW and so on. But the costs of the mkv seems to be a rather high and I gather it will depreciate a fair bit as well.

I have a Porsche 911 right now and have a Honda Accord Type r as my daily.

I am looking for a white TT 6 in manual, currently seriously looking at this one https://www.torque-gt.co.uk/supra-vvti-230519.html

Is definately top end money . Thoughts?

I just imported a white 96 from them. It took me around a year I think to find one.

Obviously I had been watching the prices that good quality Supras are going for in Japan and I really think you’ll struggle to pay less than 35k delivered here now. Most calculated to be around the mid-late thirties mark. I even saw a grade 4 completely stock sell for over 40k delivered here. That’s without any work being done or any margin

I really wanted to be the first UK owner so I didn’t mind paying s bit extra. I didn’t get to see this car while up there but they did speak of how immaculate it was

I think 40k is worth it if it is indeed that condition. I'd want lower miles though. Mad how prices have gone up so much.

I remember when I thought 16k was a lot.

Thanks for the input all, I do feel 40K is really top end money, just wondered if is realistic. And yes it should have recaros if is a RZ. Havng said that the R34 GTR have asking price from 40s to 60s not v-spec. Will supra's follow the trend with the prices like R34 GTR? Any thoughts on future prices ? Or are we topping out already?

The wheels are fairly nice, but I quite like the OEM look myself.

It’s all guesswork however as the cars get older and harder to find it usually does have an effect on the market.

I don't think prices are topping out. Just look at Escort Cosworths, Sierra cosworth 3 doors, even escort Mk1s.

But I think thats steep for that mileage, at this moment in time. The 5k plus profit they probably have in it; well some people want to view a car before that kind of outgoing so the premium may be worth it for some.

Ridiculous money, it is a late model VVTI car but still, you could probably import personally for much less.

The prices cars are attracting through Japanese dealers and auction houses is eye opening, jaw dropping, wow really territory these days. Having said that the more expensive cars tend to be low mileage TT6's that meet the US 25 year to import ruling so this does seem high for a later model with in Japanese claimed terms higher than premium stock km's. i think they will find £40k a bit of an ask to far on this car. Prices are still rising in Japan but seem to have largely stalled here, maybe its a Brexit thing or just everyone expecting the next recession after 11 years since the last one so it must be just around the corner.

As for the OP comments I think only about 20% of Supras are in 040 white so being stuck on the colour is going to restrict the pack quite a lot. Having said that if there is up to £40k available to spend then I'm sure just about every owner of a white TT6 Supra in the UK would consider selling for substantially below that price. So, why not post up a wanted ad and see what comes to light?

Hi All,

Just a bit of an update from me, so I bought the car and went to pick it up last friday. Weather was terrible i don't think I could have picked a worst day lucky no salt on the roads just yet!

A day before Was told that revcounter no longer works, which I accept the car is old enough for things like this to go wrong and the left side mirror doesn't fold in automatically anymore. Which again I think is an easy problem to fix.

The car looked mint and it was detailed looking very clean also had the original japanese user manual which was pretty cool. 1st impressions the car really does feel like a GT car is very stable an is an awesome car to drive. Is also very good in the lower rev ranges.

On a closer inspection at the end of the boot (not the lid) above the rear lights in the corner. There are some weld seems which looks a little concerning. I can't really tell whether it is rust or just the paint on the weld joins have cracked a little.

Would appreciate some thoughts.

Is gone to Chris Calvert to get cleaned up underneath and have a light coat of underseal, then is going to Lee for a check over .

Keep you guys updated and hope to see you at meets soon

It could have been when the boot rubbers were replaced (when they squeak) they are a nightmare to remove as they are epoxy welded in and often a crosshead screwdriver may have been smacked in to get enough purchase to twist the screws out, sometimes alot of heat is also required to melt the bond. I can't really see properly in the pics.

Hey, I wouldn’t be too concerned. Trouble with white cars is any damage or dirt seems to stand out more than other colours. That area is a real dirt trap point on these cars, mine was caked in crud when I cleaned it the other weekend. I’m guessing someone could easily damage the paint in this area if they were too heavy handed or used strong solvents etc to clean..... the paint on all Japanese cars is very soft and pretty thin compared to other makers.

I’d check the inner floorpan in the boot for any signs of accident repair, if it all looks good, I’d not worry about it personally.

Hope that helps and enjoy!

Cheers,

Pete :)

To be perfectly honest, if I'd paid that much for a car, I'd have expected it to be 100% sorted, zero faults whatsoever, I hope they're helping to cover the cost, old car or not.

The car looks to have been painted from those pics, there should be a clearly defined seam under where the broken paint is

Another vote for paint work and potential overspray.

Loosen the ariel off and look around the grommet, you will also see the interior of the rear arch behind the boot trim. Lift the boot seal, loosen the rubber mount and check around the rear arch. Might be worth removing the rear light on that side too.

Check the floor pan for wrinkles on too.

Response from dealer

Yes images you have sent are quite common on older cars, this is basically a factory seam sealant application that is more flexible than the paint that is then applied over it, over time as it moves/vibrates etc it causes this kind of cracking

to the surface paint, the good thing is it shows real originality. Keep and eye on it, if it were me I wouldn't get this re painted as it is age related, correct patina, I might however rub a think layer of something like Vaseline on it to keep the

moisture.

It probably been like this for years so I wouldn't worry about it to much, just keep your eye on it.

See what other members with white cars in similar condition to yours have to say. I would start a new thread asking for members to post photos of the same area, so you can compare. Forgive me but I forget was yours sold as having any paintwork or repair work done?

To me, they are essentially telling you to f*@k off...

At the very least after what you have paid I would have expected them to ask you to bring it on so they can get it looked at.

Yea I have to agree to be fair since I have paid quite alot for the car. But my concern that this is not rust and that it is a simple problem. In my experience I have seen this in accord type r with weld joints in the engine bay where it has cracked and rusted all the way through.

I haven't examine the car by dismantling rear lights and so on..... it might worth a deeper poke.

Appreciate the thoughts guys as usual.

I haven't ever heard of that happening to any Supra. My thoughts are only about a potential shunt. Nothing more sinister. The Supra is a well made beast.

On the drivers side underneath there is plastic cover and rubberised piece on the vertical inner rear wing, like a breather for the wings air space? If you loosen it then with a torch you can inspect the rear arch from behind.

I'm away from my car right now but I seem to recall some seams in the gutter here, so could well be normal.
