Heater dials illumination

So with a quick search it seems it is common for the heater dials to stop lighting up and its not the bulbs that are blown. If i play around and push on the bulb holders they come on but then as soon as i click the dash panel back in place they go off. Im assuming a bad solder joint on the circuit board but has anybody actually found which joint is usually the culprit? I took the heater control partially apart but then chickened out as i guessed that if i break the thing im screwed with no heater or fan at all. Its really annoying driving at night and not being able to see the position of the dials! Has anybody managed to fix this problem?

Yeah tried moving them around and nothing. Only pushing on one of the bulbs makes them both come on. I'm pretty sure it's a dry solder joint with age or broken circuit board copper track. I'm just scared of fully opening the thing up in case I break it and then I'm left with no heater controls at all.

Just had it apart and fixed it! It was as i expected a bad solder joint, works perfect now. Trouble is, i put the thing back together and all was working fine and then another bulb on the buttons went out. Tapped the dash and it came back on. Then the damn warning lights on the right hand side of the instrument panel wasnt lighting up when i turned the ignition on so played about with the wires behind and they came back on. Ive never known a more fickle dashboard illumination set up than these damn things and the variety of bulbs used is mind boggling! Why not just use the same style bulb instead of about 4 different kinds?
