Hi,

I have the large G87 brake master cylinder and would like to give it a refresh. Does anybody know which p/n is the right one for the overhaul kit?

There are basically four to choose from:

0449314160 CYLINDER KIT, BRAKE MASTER 04493 JZA80 1 05.1995 - 05.1996

0449330241 CYLINDER KIT, BRAKE MASTER 04493 JZA80 FR;235/45,RR;255/40 1 03.1998 - ...

0449330240 CYLINDER KIT, BRAKE MASTER 04493 JZA80..RZS,SZ,SZR FR;235/45,RR;255/40 1 05.1996 - 03.1998

0449314160 CYLINDER KIT, BRAKE MASTER 04493 JZA80..RZS,SZ,SZR 1 05.1996 - ...

Does anybody have a clue which one has the large 26.99 mm diameter?

Cheers

There's a marking in front of the BMC (G82 / G87). A smaller dia BMC needs more travel to move the same amount of fluid, therefore the pedal travel would increase as well and probably feel a bit softer. I never had the chance to do a 1 to 1 comparison on any car though.

Didnt know there was a rebuild kit for this.

How can I see which brake master cylinder I have? The pedal is very soft even though the system has been bled a couple of times.

What are the affects if I dont have the bigger cylinder and bigger 4/2 pot brakes?

Just keep bleeding, mine was was a source of frustration for ages, and then as if by magic a slug of air came out the 4th of 5th attempt on one of the back lines, and hey presto, decent brakes :)

I have been offered a BMC which reads G84 on it. I wonder what is that for? My current reads G82.
