took car out for a spin ,speedo gauge stopped working and the EML came on along with the red triangle, car was running fine with this so pulled over stopped the car ,restarted both lights went out but speedo didn't operate .could it be a loose connection behind dash ,or a sensor didn't get codes at the moment .

It could be many things from frazzled circuits or capacitors or failed speed converter or a bad connection. Probably not your speed sensor if other electronic glitches came and went. Plenty of background reading for you but they all mean removing the instrument cluster for a look see.
