hello all, my 94 N/A, if not used every day has a 2-3 second cam rattle on its first start up, the rest of the day she fine, im guessing that its the cam,

question 1, are they hydraulic oil fed?

question 2, what is the cure

and the big one how much for a garage to do the job (just a ball park figure)

thanks

Its not the cam, the engines have hydraulic lifters, or oil filled lifters. The oil drains away once the engines stopped for a while, and you get a little tapping until oil pressure builds up. Its very common and not really detrimental.

Could need shimming, could need heavier/fresh oil. Shims are a fairly easy job with the right tools, just time consuming

The 2JZ engines do not have hydraulic tappets.... They are biscuit shim atop the tappet.
