OK this is where the build and life kinda knock the poop outa me. So the car is suffering from massive overfuel. I try checking injectors, ecu and various other bits. However around this time i found out some really hard family news and the car got put in the garage for a while. Until the now banned RoBD offered to help get it working......what follows is a total disaster that nearly ended the car and resulted in a full engine rebuild.......and my lack of faith in humanity being pushed to new levels before being renewed in a way i never knew possible....Its a bumpy ride from here on out....

  • 5 months later...

So here we go the car is loaded up and sent to RobD who i considered a mate.....

attachment.php?attachmentid=224533&d=1514635055

So it starts off ok ish. The wiring from the number 6 was botched (before i got the engine) i didnt see it was hacked and connected it as i saw it. Forced the inject to open full plet, it was from an old alarm system designed to cut power to the injectors

24-05-13

Righty, Overfuel is fixed downside VSS are shot due to the fuel eating them. So head off job with everything that goes along with it.

04-09-13

4 months pass as i wait for news finally i hear this Had a great text last night to tell me the head is back on the rest should be getting bolted up this weekend then its just reinstalling it and MOT

This madness needs its own page....so this is what happens when i start the car for the first time..........

attachment.php?attachmentid=224534&d=1514635818

attachment.php?attachmentid=224535&d=1514635818

So thats more or less all the oil mixed with coolant and exploding out the header tank......Hats off the rest of the club offering parts time and good will however by this point i was about to throw the towl

11-04-14

I somehow decided that i would carry on doing the bits i could do while i waited for some parts. A chap called Matt that used to be here had contacted me and offered to fix the car for free! i was floored by this and started to collect all the bits he needed. I dont think i will ever forget what he did for me.

Things dont go well....."Well it's all in and had it running for 10 mins to flush out the oil and water ways I'll do another oil and filter change and see how it fars on a test drive up and down my drive. But I think there has seen alot of oil starvation to the oil pump so think it might have to come back out and have new bottom end. Russ only run the car for around 1 minute befor noticing the problem and shut it off straight away. The reason I never stripped the bottom end completely down was due to it all looking ok and no signs of bearing or other material in the oil that come out.

Should it be worst case scenario I have a spare long block out my car which I was holding onto but as Russ's need is greater than mine and I won't to wave the car good buy with him behind the wheel rather than on the back of another tow truck :-(.

I will do all it takes to make this happen for him"

23-05-14

I think long and hard about this, and talk to the Mrs who agrees to push on with the build and i buy matts bottom end

"Quick update on this I got the engine back out tonight in only 2 1/2 hours which I thought was not bad as it was fully back in and connected up.. Hope to get it fully stripped down and my old dona long block stripped and rebuilt with new front and back crank seals and sump sealing this week so could have it all done and back in and running by the weekend if all goes well :-)"

TT box found to be low on fluid no big problem

17-06-14

"spent a few hours on it tonight and got a few odd jobs sorted

1) the boost leak = NO JUBILEE CLIP ON INTERCOOLER PIPE. Sorted with new clip

2) auto box = empty altho it was showing cool level so will grab some fluid and top up and see how that goes

3) fix intercooler as only held on with top nut. = retaap bolt hole and find bolt to fit in my parts bucket Job done.

on the home straight now need to pick up new stat and rad cap as the oil has swollen the rubbers."

"Well just been for a small 20 mile road test and pleased to report all seem good think there is still a boost leak so will have a check in the morning"

"Ya Been back out on it today and made a pressure system to see if there was a boost leak but could not find one so all is good I stripped all the pipes off and tested them and cleaned them inside as we're oily and had rubbish in them I also replaced a few missing bolts hear and there and gave the under side a quick decrease"

24-11-14

OK had a bit of a misson today.

While removing the heater controls, i found some wires looked burnt on the Fog light control... Traced it all the way though the loom and back down to the connector! About half way though the back of the dash the wires where melted together and stripped of the plastic. So with my bro in laws help i have removed the dash and the offending loom and ordered another one from Keron.

Keron told me he has seen this before when the fog light wires are put in the wrong way round. From the look of it its a very old injury probably pre my ownership. But just goes to show you dont know what lerks behind stuff.

So im making the bold choice and spraying the top half of the car gloss black. I said all along i wanted to copy Ibars car as i loved it so much. Its going in on Thursday. Fingers crossed.

So the story, as someone of you saw the paint on my roof started to fade, at first i out it down to a farmer spraying chemicals. So i had the top half redone is black as a fix. Alas this summer the rest of the car started to go the same way. It seems from talking to people there was a fault in the paint itself and as it got hotter and hotter the paint got worse and worse.

Sooooo i sold the cupra r i brought and saved some cash and today i dropped my car off to the mechanics.

The plan.

Health check car...This should be fine as the engine was rebuilt not many miles back. This was confirmed when the compression read 185 across the board. However as i expected a smoke test reveled a boost leak.

1. Remove and replace all boost pipes.

2. Put new boost gauge in, repair or replace boost control.

3. Fix broken seat motor.

4. Check fuel and brake lines, replace if need be.

5. Install black carpet

6. Change fan belt

7. Install new o2

Remove engine for repray.

Then its off to the painters for full respray inc engine bay.

My aim is to have it future proofed as best as possible. Having had the engine pulled apart, every gasket changed, then a full polybush and coilover upgrade the final bits are mostly to do with the boost pipes. Dyno results come back
