Looking very nice mate. I really like it with the stock 17s, particularly in that colour.

Theres certainly something about it that just sets it apart from the rest. Less is definitely more i think in your case.

I bought an R154 for mine today.

Will be swapping out the W58

Cheers dude, I really like the OEM wheels. I'll be keeping them but throwing the RPF1's on as soon as I get tyres. Few other wee bits I want to gather for the exterior styling wise that should be pretty cool.

I just for the life of me can't decide what tyre size to get, I have a certain look in my head which I want to achieve.

If you need any help with the R154 conversion just fire me a message on facebook dude.

Ok so since I fitted the R154 I haven't been able to use my manual gear surround as it wouldn't let me put the car into 2nd 4th or reverse gear. It was badly fouling it because the MK3 R154 swan necks backwards quite a bit.

I took the shifter off, clamped it with vice grips in 2 different places and heated it up with a blow torch to soften all of the adhesive holding the black bit on. Then when it was hot enough I pulled the black bit off.

It looked like this:

Then with the bit left it was heated up until it was glowing hit and bent straight in a vice.

There was no thread on the bar underneath as well, so ended up threading it to M10x1.5 and using a Honda EP3 gearknob temporarily until I get a nice replacement. Lol

Does it go into 2nd and 4th now? Enjoying this build :)

Yep it's absolutely perfect now. I might upload a video or something just to show you. The throws feel much shorter and more precise now, well pleased!

I just need to get one of those 'boot retainer' thingys and a new gearknob to tidy it up.

I'll be getting tyres really soon for the RPF1's, although not sure if I'm going to put them on for winter? Considering semi-slicks just because the sidewalls look cooler/more meaty. I'm aware they'll be pretty dump in the wet though which is what I really don't want.. meh. Need to compromise somewhere!

I wouldnt put semi slicks on.. not at this time of year anyway.

Do you know Shawn Preese?

He has a lovely white ridox big single 6 and he recently binned it all due to have R888s in damp conditions.

Wide semi slicks are suicide in the wet, its just not worth the risk i dont think

Nothing wrong with semi's in the damp, you just need to respect the fact that it will be more slippery if you haven't raised them to temperature (not easy to do a public road). The biggest issue with semi slicks is standing water/heavy rainfall.

If you don't want to leave anything to chance then I would hold off on getting slicks until the weather is more favourable. Or get a more well rounded tyre, because you will need to drive like an a$$hole on the public road to get any semi slick to it's optimal temperature.

For all the price of them (nearly the same as budgets) I might give them ago. I'm very harsh on the auld tyres and a new pair of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 wouldn't last very long for the price of them lol.

Still in two minds about it though, I may not even put the RPF1s on for another couple of months at least!

So quite a lot has happened since the last update!

My clutch started to slip very slightly and within the space of about 20 miles went from alright to completely undriveable.

I decided to get my TRD flywheel resurfaced and maintain my TRD pressure plate, as it was 100%. So in place of my extremely harsh TRD 3 puck disc, I went for an Aisin disc with kevlar lining and it's holding BPU power perfectly. It's like a completely stock clutch to drive. Brilliant.

I decided to give the car an oil/filter change at the same time. Only done about 1000 miles since the last one, but sure why not!image

After about 100 miles of easy driving to bed the clutch in, I decided to go for a leisurely drive to Tescos. Just as I was pulling out of the parking space 1st gear pops out and refused to go back in.... shit. 1st gear thrust washer/synchro decided it wanted to die.

@np89 and I then got use of a friends garage and took my gearbox out ourselves and I've left it to my local gearbox specialist, Ali Burrows Motorsport. I'm waiting for the final diagnosis but I'm I'm 2 minds whether to fully rebuild the box, or just replace what's broken.

After the gearbox was taken out we decided to go for a pizza at about 2am and watch TV in Nialls X5... oh the luxury 😂imageimageimage
