Applecross Invasion (Pictures added)

Hi People,

I am working with a couple of members in order to created an epic road trip for this coming Summer. We are looking to incorporate the spirit of last years DragonCol, which certainly planted the seed for a longer event which will see participants driving the very best of Scotland's roads.

The Event is likely to last for a weekend, beginning on the Friday and running through to the Sunday. The route is still in the planning stages, but MKIV's very own Dr Xavier (Tony) is hopefully going to succumb to my compliments and gifts, in order to help us map out an awesome route which will include, Applecross & Skye to name a few.

I am going to be working on the accommodation side of things, in order to ensure safe parking and decent rest for members and their Cars. Hopefully I should be able to patch together a rough estimate in the week ahead, for accommodation at least, then a better understanding should be clear when we have finalised the route.

This thread is to get an idea of interest, and any Idea's on locations etc are more than welcome. We have had a fair number of new members joining so this would be a great opportunity to get to know everyone and hopefully set a president for meets in the future.

This sounds excellent, good effort Sunny.

As I've said, new baby on the immediate horizon means I can't commit to much but I'll do my absolute best to make this as I wouldn't want to miss out.

I've stayed in a place called kilterglen in Portree the one time I went. They did us a deal for 2 nights- it's usually booked up quite solid in the summer up that way- makes you realise we actually have a healthy tourist industry- but it has a car park and is a 10 min walk from Portree square. It's individual lodges but i'd be up for sleeping bag on the floor to save cash if it came to it. You can only rule it out.

This sounds epic! I too would be interested in coming along.

I'm quite a regular road user driving from Glasgow up to the Kyles and Ullapool on the A82 and back down the A9, also taken a few 'detours' over the years to experience some good roads (Fort William to Mallaig is a cracker, but a dead end unfortunately) so if I can offer any assistance I'd be more than happy to help.

P.S. The A832 from the Kyles up to Gareloch is also a great drive. I can also source 5 twin berth caravans (can sleep 3-4 in each) at a very small cost depending on availability and which month etc if we head that way.

Nothing that would put me off there, sunny I will be able to source tents for this (free) if we need them. One I've been offered fits an easy 8 with 12 at a squeeze but can get more tents if needed.

Sounds brilliant Marcus . Just need to see if the hotel option is going to be reasonable as I'm sure a few peeps might like the option, and if its cost effective then bonus.

All current interest and scales point to an August event Marcus, so it should work out pretty well for us all. We should be in the height of the summer, and the daylight should be lasting the longest, with a nice sunset or two to usher us to our diggs each night .

Okay guys, getting back on this!

How do you guys feel about potentially setting this event for the weekend of the 16th and 17th of August?

Reasons for this date, SCS will be taking place on the 20th July, and JAE sits on the 4th September, so the 16th and 17th of August fit perfectly between these two other important dates.

Can those interested please check your availability on these dates please, and then report back. There will be a party leaving for this trip regardless of interest from here, so don't feel bad if you need to drop out .

Pricing to follow, although petrol will probably be the main expense
