Manual gear knob on auto shifter

Hey guys, I stumbled across the thread the other day about changing out the auto shifter, in favour of a manual look.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that my car is an auto, but the stock shifter and surround is a little dated looking.

So after a couple of hours of tinkering, I disable the shift lock, and moved the manual mode and overdrive buttons to the blanks under the stereo.

Much better!

Looks great, but would look better with a plain gearknob IMO.

I was considering doing this a few years ago, after seeing this: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?172889-Nice-mod-for-auto-owners-%29&highlight=manual%20auto

Cheers dude, see its funny, because I was going to go for a plain black one, but preferred the red writing as it goes nice with the red/black theme inside!

Looks good. This is the next job on my list. How easy is it to remove the old knob?

This looks pritty cool! And it stops the Chavs that havnt got a clue about these cars staring through the window and saying. "Oh it's an auto!" Lol

Well rafts what I always get from them lol.

So how do you make it so it pushes down to change gear? Is there a write up anywhere about this?

I'm living the idea of getting a blank gear knob engraved with the auto positions :D

It's just a cheap knob off eBay that is spring loaded that allows you to push down to move gear position.

The hardest part is moving the manual and OD buttons and making it look nice.

This is the knob I used.

Today I've done a bit more to the mod, although I'm still planning on making a threaded adaptor so a stock leather gear knob will screw on, that I'm having retrimmed in black leather with red stitching.

I've moved the auto shift pattern to the side, added some red ohp film to the back of it, and wired leds inside to illuminate with the gear selection.

And a quick video. Although, I'll do a better one tonight when it's dark :)
