Not a big update but i done a little job in the engine bay that`s been bugging me for a while! and that was to tidy up my battery clamp.

 

Before i started.

Not a big update but I've just been enjoying driving the car as much as possible and it still leaves me with a big grin from ear to ear after :)

I ordered some parts from SRD in the week so I could do an oil change which I got done today while it was a little warmer outside.

As you had your cam covers powder coated did you have any issues with leaks? As i read about the temperature they bake at can warp the covers? I want to do it mine but need more info. Cheers Kev

 

Hi Kev

No I didn't have any issues with leaks after having my cam covers powder coated, I did make some fixtures out of wood so the cam covers fit really snug on them so nothing would get into the grove where the seal goes and also up inside where the baffle plates would be fixed back in place, the cam covers were fixed to these throughout the powder coating process so this may have helped keep them from warping maybe.

The one big issue I had as you may have seen in my project thread was after they had been on the car for the best part of a year and getting up to temperature from the engine they started to blister really bad! Not sure what caused it but I reckon it wasn't done particularly well by whoever done the powder coating at the company I used!

Ahhh not good on the blistering mate, but that template is brilliant. Think ill go the calliper paint route to be fair

Can’t believe it’s almost been a year since I updated my project thread :blink: I haven’t done nothing major to the car to be honest apart from just enjoying taking it out as much as possible over summer :cool:

 

Two little jobs I have managed to get done as it’s been bugging me for a while now is :-

 

First job I fitted a brass filter on my Boost Control Solenoid as it’s been missing since I bought the kit, looks a lot tidier now but I would like to some how tidy up the frayed ends of the heat sleeve but not sure what to use yet.

Second job was to buy and fit some grommets that were missing from the underside of my Supra, I always thought nothing was supposed to be in there until I see an under side picture of someone else supra and it had grommets fitted where mine were missing! So got on the phone to Steve Manley and got some ordered up, One thing that was now worring me was the condition of the car where these grommets were missing! so when i had a look with a torch I was expecting the worst and lots of rust etc But to my surprise it look pretty clean & fresh with no sign of rust at all :)

I did start a thread about this but I Had a scary moment one day while out in the Supra driving it fairly hard and thought I had blown my turbo up!

 

I went out for a spin in the Supra and all was going well once warmed up, As I come onto a local dual carriage

way I did a few hard pulls and all was still ok but got stuck behind some cars going slower so was then off boost following them until they moved out the way, I was in 5th gear at this time and the revs were fairly high so just stuck my foot down and when it came on boost there was a little judder then a really loud pop but sort of had a dead note to it! After hearing that I naturally slowed down thinking the worst and after a while noticed the turbo wouldn’t come on boost when putting my foot down :( I carefully drove it home so I could give it a good looking over to see what was the matter and noticed I had blown apart a join in my intercooler pipe work so not looking as bad as I was thinking thankfully.

 

When under the car putting it back together I noticed the Jubilee clip had actually snapped which must have happened when the pipe popped off, also had a look into the pipe work and it’s all nice and clean inside so got it all back together and it’s been fine since thankfully :)

Finally got round to doing a job i have been wanting to do for ages while it was nice and sunny at the weekend, the active spoiler blade on my Supra has gone a funny kind of faded dark green colour and didn’t match the rest of the Oem bottom valence and it’s been bugging me for ages! I had a spare spoiler laying around that I bought a couple of years ago so tried out what I bought on this spoiler just incase it went wrong. I have looked at a few different ways to try and restore it back to its original colour and the first was Plastidip but I found it marks to easily and wouldn’t last long before it got chipped! The second was to paint it but again i was a tad worried because it’s so flexible! I come across this stuff recently and after reading up on it a bit decided to give it a try :) it’s called Matte Black Plastic Resurfacer and a Pre Painting Prep cleaner which was recommended to use first, to prep it up and remove some minor scratches on the spoiler I also sanded it down with 400 grit wet & dry paper.

Must stop leaving it a year plus to keep updating my thread! :blink:

 

One of the last jobs I did on my Supra was recondition my active spoiler blade. I have been asked how it’s doing after all this time, well it’s been a year & 2 months and I can honestly say it still looks like it did the day I first sprayed it up with Matte Black Plastic Resurfacer which I’m very happy about :)

 

Tried to get a few pictures to show it’s current condition a few weekends ago.
