doesn't sound right?

I see a lot of threads like this in tech and it's a bit annoying when we have to ask a shedload of questions before we can start helping, like:

1) when did this start happening - today, always, last week when you dropped a screwdriver bit down the oil filler cap?

2) Under what conditions does it make the noise - cold, warm, all the time?

3) What's changed on the car recently - clutch install, different oil after a service, news cams, it's been stood for 3 years and just been started...?

Help us to help you :)

-Ian

Sorry Ian

It all spans oiff this Thread , you helped me with

http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?273756-fuel-regulator-vacuum-pipe-jspec

Re-plumbed in the Idle air reference hose for EVAP system; Engine light and she smells of overfueling

Error codes

31 -- Air flow meter Circuit short

34 -- Turbo Pressure Malfunction;short in VSV or waste Gate Circuit

I disconnected the Idle air reference hose for EVAP system and Engine light is gone, she sounds OK ; no strong petrol fumes from exhaust

Obviously something is amiss in the EVAP System; what is the best approach to take?

By-pass the system? I cannot see any obvious loose or worn connection ; to be honest all the pipes look 19 years old; its hard to tell what is causing the issue.

I looked at the MKIV article on how to bypass the Charcoal canister but it is pants , anybody have a decent How to Do?

thanks

It's ok, it's just very hard to help remotely without some detailed info :) Didn't realise it was stemming off that other problem, I'd missed your updates on that so hadn't gone back to it.

Has it been making this noise since you had the power loss on the track?

Its cool, really appreciate the Help Ian!

No Just since I re-connected the Idle air reference hose but since I disconnected it she idles and sounds normal; she seems to boost as normal with the Idle air reference hose disconnected; I presume the Diaphram in the VSV is preventing any boost leak

I know the Clutch plates can rattle on Idle; it is a bit annoying!

I'll have a re-read of your problem, that sounds quite bizarre.

I've pinched this as an example for a sticky I just made :D

Cool , Glad to be of help!

I am in a pickle and I am at a loose end on what to do next; SSI (supra specialist Ireland) is 2.5 hours drive away so I am trying to do everything I can first to resolve the issue.

What has me confused, is why she boosts ok with the Idle air reference hose disconnected; I would of taught this will create a boost leak? Diaphram in the VSV is preventing any boost leak?

My other concern is, obviously this hose helps circulate the fuel vapours via the Charcoal canister ; with it disconnected I will get a build up of petrol vapours,Will this damage the Engine? or will I be heading down the motorway with ACDC on full WOT in a ball of fire!

I've responded to your other thread. I need to be clear which hoses are connected to what and where they go before making any more assumptions :) I'm still not completely sure what you've got plumbed into where, so give me a roundup in that thread.

Also, don't worry about the EVAP stuff just yet, the worst you'll get is a petrol smell. I haven't had a charcoal canister for years.
