Vauxhall Corsa 53 reg 'F' code

My sister in law has a 53 plate Vauxhall Corsa with the tiptronic/easytronic gearbox. Today it came up with a 'F' in the display (the one that displays which gear it is in).

Now the car wont start.

I have been searching the internet and some people seem to think this problem is down to a faulty crank sensor?

Are there any Vauxhall techs on here that can shed some light?

This has happened to me a couple of times in work with customers cars.

The first time i disconnected the battery for 10 mins and it reset itself. The second time i left it in the bay for a while and when i came back to reset it, it had already reset itself.

The battery was dis-connected earlier on for 5 minutes, once re-connected the car started fine again.

Just trying to sort a more permanent fix :)

I suppose ideally it needs to be plugged into the tech2 to see what is going on.

At least you have got it going now, hopefully tech 2 should pick the fault up.

Managed to speak to a Vauxhall specialist that i have done some work for. His first response was 'oh dear' :(.

Apparently these things are known for there problems (tiptronic/easytronic systems), he went through the usual things.

1. Crank Sensor £40

2. ECU £700

3. Gearbox selector solenoids £400

So picked up a crank sensor today for £38 and will be trying that tomorrow. If it fails again she will look to get rid of the car as it would not be worth spending either £400 or £700 on it.

My mate Ian told me last night his wife's corsa is doing the same. Its the gear selector thingys that are away on it and that they are pretty expensive. This is the second time it has went and he replaced it with an Ebay number which he said was a rare find.

So he is on the hunt for another one if not he is getting rid as it sits.

My mate sent me this message hope it helps mate,

Liam i went on to the Supra owners forum and found the guys thread about the Corsa, i can't post in that section so i'll post it here and if you want you can "copy & paste" it on the Sup-forum ;)

the fault they have sounds like the exact same fault we have & had last year with our "02" Corsa SXi, the part needed is the Gear selector (gear actuator)

they are getting harder to find 2nd hand and are selling upwards of £100 (new is £800+) we tried a place called BBA-reman http://www.bba-reman.com/uk/index.aspx we sent the selector away to them for testing (which they done) but our unit was to far gone to be reconditioned (£35 to test it or £200 to recon it) we paid £35 for this and that inc pick-up & delivery

so after nearly 5wks of trying to get a 2nd hand unit i managed to get one through ebay (ive sent many dozens of messages to folk breaking Corsas) all going well the part will be with us today (10/07/10) & the wee motor will be good to use again.

over the past 6/7 wks we have had our Corsa plugged in and tech II updated twice (no change)

came across many places not willing to split the selector from the gearbox or others saying you need to buy the gearbox ECU as well, which you don't! if you do change the ECU actuator then only vauxhall have the software to match another ECU to the car and they'll rape you for £240 for the plesure of coding the ECU to the car. "you can straight swap the gear selector from car to car"

removing the gear selector is easy, make sure the car is in "N", disconnect the battery, unplug 2 plug's & remove 4 "T-30" torx head bolts

hope this helps you out.
