How To: Aircon Diagnostics

Recommended Posts

Just had air con regassed, the guy doing it said he's had a good look and can't see any leaks anywhere, but it's still not cold. Compressor doesn't seem like it's kicking in.

I've done the diagnostic which just gives the two lights above the auto button flashing, which I understand to mean everything all OK.

Is it likely to be a dead compressor? How much is a new or reconditioned one? How easy a job is it to replace?

there are two bits in the engine bay (fuse box or diagnostics) you can bridge with some wire that will engage the compressor if it is ok........off to hopefully find a link.

Cheers for that link, I've made a note of it... but hopefully I won't need it. Got in the car this morning, stuck the blower on, and it was properly cold! :D

So fingers crossed it'll all be OK, and I got the air con done for free! :D

I am an auto ac specialist, to keep it simple lads.

Thickest air con pipe should be freezing/cold to touch

Thinner pipe should be warm/ hot to touch

When you push the ac button you should hear a clunk, this is the compressor clutch engaging. This should spin when this happens if this isn’t moving then there is an issue with the compressor. When idle you should be able to turn this clutch, if not I’m afraid the compressor clutch has seized and it’s time for a new compressor..

If anyone needs any help regarding this, send me a message!
