  2. Call JPS and speak to Leon... he'll put you in touch with his gearbox guy that works on his drag car (and mine) so you might find it's a considerably cheaper option than buying a new one. JPS 01908 367100 PP
  3. I could be very interested in a group buy... looks like a great bit of kit... electronically controlled too. I've got the HKS Ti as well but am driving it with the baffle at the mo whilst running the new engine in... seems alot quieter than my old 3 inch exhaust considering I've upgraded the mid and down pipes to 4" too... Does anyone know how much silencing a typical baffle produces? Cheers, PP
  4. Cheers Pig... yeah, it seems that if you want a job done properly then you'll end up coughing up in labour costs... I had to have my fuel lines replaced and the car completely re-wired which piled on the labour... still, I reckon that's better than a firey death! One other thing... anyone thinking of getting their gearbox repaired/refurbed, I urge you... DO NOT use a man named Ralph, based in Bletchley... he's an oxygen thief... f**cking useless and totally unreliable! Leon at JPS has a guy he uses for his drag car that sorted my car in double quick time. Happy motoring all! Rgds, PP
  5. Hi Lads, I ended up getting my turbofit engine rebuilt as they decided to use some kind of sealant to prevent air leaking from the Greddy Intake manifold... and it ended up inside the engine, and caused enough damage to warrant a complete strip down! Even the crank bearings were buggered! So, I got JPS to start from scratch, upgrading nearly everything, including work on the head and 4" piping throughout... to correct Jamie's statement, I wasn't happy with the gearbox refirb I'd had done (it was sent to a gearbox specialist... well, that's what he called himself)... after having the box for 4 months I was quite peeed off when it kept jumping out of 1st gear and making grinding/crunching noises! Having spent alot of money (again!!!) and waiting almost 6 months I didn't expect any further problems. As far as JPS is concerned, so far I've been impressed with the level of expertise and advise they've given me. Although I've ended up spending alot more money then I'd hoped, my engine feels a world apart from the Turbofit gash I'd had before. I managed 500 miles before Leon picked the car up to get the gearbox re-done and the car has never felt so strong... even the vibration through the steering wheel has disappeared. Apparently the gearbox problem has been sorted now so I should get the car back shortly to continue the run in phase. Interestingly, despite the alleged problems with Dan Turner, Leon has inspected his work on my ecu and sat in with Dan when he completed the base map and has no concerns over his technical ability and workmanship. Having guaranteed the engine rebuild I doubt Leon would take any unnecessary risks. Having had my fingers burned throughout my modifying experience, my advise to anyone carrying out technical modifications are as follows: 1. If you have a budget of £5k, plan to spend £2.5k... your remaining £2.5k WILL go! 2. Choose your tuning garage wisely... especially for engine rebuilds and ecu tuning. In this case choose a garage and give them complete control over both the build and the ecu mapping so as to avoid any conflict when things go bang. I gave Leon carte blanche to build my engine and tune it to his spec... that way if anything breaks it's his responsibilty... this includes boost settings! Also, JPS have proven race experience which should play a big part in choosing your tuner. 3. Avoid the cheap option... it'll cost you. Good luck! PP
  6. I had a similar problem after I was a bit over zealous changing into second gear... turned out to be the synchromesh which ended up costing a few hundred quid to repair so not too bad!
  7. Like Pig, I've been left with huge bills thanks to TF... my total Supra ownership has just reached £40k... in 13 months and 5k miles!!! Thing is, I've spent so much that I can't afford to sell it... and it's staying in the UK when I move to Hong Kong next month! The only thing that keeps me going is knowing the smile that thing is going to put on my face for those 5/6 days a month I return to Blighty! My Supra might be old hat... but there's no car under £100k that would give me the same rush! Big up the mkiv... PP
  8. This last part is relevant to what I'm about to add... Having been a loyal TF customer, this is my story of my 1 YEAR of Supra ownership: Late Aug 2006 - Bought T88 Single 6 speed Supra from GordR. Early Oct 2006 - Engine Blows up on dyno after being convinced to change from F-Con V Pro EMS to AEM EMS - suspected under fueling by faulty injectores. Engine rebuild follows with Arias pistons, Eagle rods, OVERSIZE VALVES, ARP STUDS (please note), etc, etc. New engine successfully mapped. Air con, Fuel low light and stereo not working and not repaired. Christmas 2006 - Car won't start, AEM CDI fault suspected, Dan T replaces with HKS DLI, no cost. Spring 2007 - Re-mapping for race fuel and new GT4088 turbo fails to provide more than 1.6 bar, leak suspected, problem not cured. Later, added Koyo Rad and Oil cooler for engine health. June 2007 - Gearbox chips synchromesh cog and starts to whine... 6 weeks later TF still not got car booked in for gearbox overhaul, finally give up and look elsewhere for work to be done. July 2007 - Visit JPS who say they will do the work and as requested, check car over for any dodgy previous work. Now, this is where it gets interesting... Aug 2007 - Inspection reveals: Crap cabling/wiring to the point where a serious fire hazard existed. Crank is totally f**cked due to a large crack/chunk missing, belt also buggered and we now have an engine out scenario! Did I mention that the car had done less than 5000 miles since the rebuild! I spoke to Greg before TF went bust and he agreed to pay JPS to do the work on the crank as TF carried out the rebuild and confessed to not really looking at the crank before putting it back on the car as it's too difficult to see any cracks! Since then, the crank bearings are found to be shagged accompanied by a fine mix of metal shavings and black sealant!!! Whilst the engine is out, the head is removed to reveal more black gunk and shagged piston rings. The black sealant was used by TF to make an airtight seal for the Greddy Intake manifold!!! This stuff has gone all through the engine and , as Leon suspects, combined with the use of crap engine oil after the rebuild (by TF) has now resulted in a second strip down and rebuild... that's 2 in less than a year! Oh, and there wasn't an oversize valve or an APR head stud in sight!!! I actually felt sorry for TF... now I'm raging. They delivered a crank pulley eventually but that's it! They're fortunate to have gone out of business when they did... otherwise they could have gone down for alot more I can tell you! I've now got to put my trust in another tuner/builder and, as I've said to Leon, I will not be paying for another problem with the build so he better get it right. One thing I have learned is not to suggest anything to a tuner... let them advise you and go with what they suggest... that way they can't shake off any responsibility. Leon has suggested going for CP pistons and Carillo rods... I've told him, it's his engine now... he builds it, he oversees the map and only when he is 100% happy with it will he give it back to me... Oh... and a little bit of information for anyone thinking about going across the road to JDP to have work done on their cars... Atleast 3 guys that worked on my "now f**ked engine" now work there... Personally, I could never go there. Leon at JPS now has a chance to prove himself to me and all the others that are now questioning where to go and who to trust next... Watch this space... PP
  9. Yeah Tucky, about time you started spending some money on POWER you tart!!! Hehee!
  10. Oi Jamie! Not all Veilside cars look chavy ya b**stard!
  11. They all sound like perfect exhausts for showing up at the polo... is it Pimms o'clock yet!? What happened to POWER!!!??? I think I'm Jeremy Clarkson's love child...
  12. Hi guys, Although I haven't read every single thread/comment regarding Turbofit of late, I thought, having been involved with TF since my Supra ownership began exactly a year ago that I should say a few words... TF became a popular choice for many due to the friendly, unselfish and helpfull characters of Sam and Greg. From day one, I was regulary contacted with the status of my car mods and was always made very welcome when visiting on social calls. When my car's engine blew up after just 6 weeks of ownership (due to faulty injectors), they couldn't do enough for me... including replacing all my injectors for free when rebuilding my engine. Also, I recall times when I'd pop in when something wasn't right with the car and Greg would sort it and not even bill me... this desire to help others probably contributed to the problems that followed. So, from a technical aspect... I'm not very mechanically minded so I, like many others have to put my faith in those that "know" what they're doing. My engine rebuild has, so far, yielded fantastic results. In fact, as I understand, my car is the most powerfull car that's been on Dan Turner's dyno (bare in mind I've had no "flow" work carried out to the head) and is no.8 on Monkeymarks drag racing times after it's first outing on a drag strip. The point I'm getting at is that my engine is performing fantastically well thanks to both Turbofit and DT... and I reckon I spent quite a bit less money on the build than alot of people have had to. Obviously, there are always things that go wrong when you're modifying and putting more stresses on a car than it was designed to take, but throughout my dealings with TF I never felt that they turned their back on me or shunned away from their responsibilities or the odd error I found with my car. I'm not saying they never made mistakes or perhaps even "rushed" projects slightly, but I do feel that this happened more so towards the end... and therefore I feel it was their ever worsening financial problems that was mostly to blame for the lack in communication and service that some people suffered. Now that TF has closed for business, I hope that those with outstanding claims/disputes have their problems sorted as best they can. I too have had some car related issues of late and despite Greg being his usual helpfull self, I know that I will have to take a hit due to the company being insolvent. The only thing that I'm sure of is that Greg and Sam desperately wanted Turbofit to work... whatever money I and some others now have to right-off, I know it doesn't come close to the £300k Sam's lost and so despite my own frustrations, I sympathise for all parties involved... Best regards to all at mkiv, Dan
