  1. I could be wrong but I believe this car has been owned by a couple of members on here. If I'm not mistaken it was off the road for a number of years after the bonnet flew up causing some damage including to the targa roof (hence the carbon roof replacement). As I say, I believe it was sat for 5 years or so after this, and was then bought and repaired by a member on here (can't for the life of me remember his name), and then sold on shortly after. I'm not 100% sure it's the same car, but from memory that car had a stillen front bumper too, and the repair involved replacing the roof for a carbon item. Not sure there are many, if any other cars with those combination of parts in the UK.
  2. I'm just starting this process myself, are you using 2k clear over basecoat? what brand paints are you using? you had any issues so far?
  3. I did this swap myself in my garage recently, the wiring is actually very simple. Manual ECU will be plug and play, no wiring needed this end. For the speed sensor, the plug on the gearbox and on the auto loom are the same, so again this is just plug and play. You shouldn't need to do any wiring at the clutch pedal, but you will need to bypass the starter inhibiter in the auto loom (this prevents the engine starting unless the auto box is park), you do this by splicing two wires on the loom together. Find the large auto gearbox plug on the auto loom, there should be two black wires (one might be black and white iirc), you should be able to identify them on the plug as the pins on the plug for these two wires are raised a few mm compared to the other pins, these wires need to be cut and soldered together, this will bypass the starter inhibiter. The last part is wiring up the reverse lights, the wiring for this is again on the large auto gearbox plug on the loom (red and yellow wires iirc) these will need to be wired into the other connection on the manual gearbox (should only be two from memory, speed sensor and reverse sensor).

The auto and manual ecu's are a pretty much a plug and play swap with the exception being that the auto loom will require some minor wiring, the starter inhibiter will need to be spliced (just jump these two wires together on the loom), and the wires for the reverse light sensor will need to be wired to the dedicated plug on the gearbox, its very easy and straight forward.

What you will need for the conversion: Clutch pedal Clutch fork Throw out bearing 5 speed manual propshaft (auto is a different length) Parts that are nice to have but not absolutely necessary: Brake pedal (can just trim down the auto pedal) Manual ECU (auto will work fine, but iirc cuts some timing vs the manual ecu) Bits you'll want to buy new and should not be re-used: Spigot bearing Flywheel bolts I think that's everything.
  6. I had an EP2 civic (1.6 vtec) for about 4-5 years when I first left uni and was saving for my first property, did about 60-70k miles in that time. In that time it only cost me basic service costs and tyres, nothing ever went wrong with it. Got fairly decent mpg as well (around 45mpg). It was nippy enough and had shed loads of room in it, plenty of space in the back for full grown adults to sit comfortably. Perfect for a cheap run around. Only sold it to get an S2k as a daily, as I have no reason to doubt the civic would easily have lasted me another 5 years.
  7. Thanks for your help, when I drop into the garage I will get them to test/look into the earth. I've been looking some fiat info and there is fuse in line for the starter so I will get them to check that, failing those two I would guess it would be the ignition switch. I would have hoped the garage would have tested all these things though, but worth checking. I'm with you on the ECU, I can't see how that would cause a problem with the starter circuit.
  8. Thanks for your reply. No, I didn't try jump starting it, I put the battery on my ctek charger over night and tried starting it the following morning. I'm not great with electrics, give me spanner and I'm happy but I cringe at wiring and electrics, so am I right in saying a jump start would complete the electric circuit via the earth on the 2nd car (the car used to jump start the fiat) and if it starts confirms it is a ground issue? What do you think to the fiat techs ECU diagnosis? I don't know why but I have a gut feeling they're are trying to pull a fast one charginmy other half for an expensive new ECU.
  9. My other half has an 09 fiat 500 diesel, which has had starting problems (I know, its's a fiat, what do I expect lol). Anyway about a week ago, the car wouldn't start, wouldn't crank at all, all electrics would power up fine, and the battery is in good health, but you turn the key and literally nothing happens, no noise, no warning lights, nothing. I was able to bump start the car, and it ran absolutely fine, just won't start again when you turn it off. My other half booked it in with a local mechanic to have a look at. I know they've tried a new starter that didn't fix the issue, and they've had the car a week trying to sort it to no avail. So the garage got someone from fiat in to have a look at it, and the fiat guy is saying it is a problem with the ECU?? I wouldn't have thought the ECU would have anything to do with cranking the engine, and as I said the car runs fine when bump started, so seemed a strange diagnosis. I'm going into the garage to speak to them tomorrow as my other half has been dealing with up till now, there are a few things I'm going to see if they have tested like the ground, fuses, ignition switch (I assume they will have as these are basics surely). Does anyone have any other ideas of what it could be? And does the ECU sound like a viable cause? Sorry for the essay, appreciate any help or suggestions.
  10. Interested in the engine for a conversion, pm me a price for everything needed for TT conversion.
  11. It would be good if you could keep this updated on here for the people on here that don't use Facebook, or set up a page in the meets area. I will try and get over to this, albeit not in the Supra as it is no where near finished, will bring my S2k instead. Will be good to meet some local members.
  12. Price on 6 speed? Is the engine available?
