Hi my car has just been in for a matrix change (demisterman) one, Got car back drove 5 miles then on idle temp gauge goes from normal to just below red as soon as I drive away temp starts to fall to normal. First time it did it noticed a leak on the carpet from new matrix and symptoms as described lost about 1ltr of coolant. Drove back to garage and they have had for another few days could not find leak from matrix and could not get car to overheat. Initial thoughts possibly an air lock. Picked car up today on drive home same happened but no leak from matrix. Had hc test done on coolant system so head gasket appears to be ok. Any ideas or is this a characteristic of demisterman matrix Any ideas

Got Demisterman matrix and getting car back tomorrow, got matrix changed anyway to be on the safe side, but the leak I had was from the 'O rings' where the pipes from bulk head came through (strange I thought that this would be the problem). Symptoms were coolant loss 25mm down on radiator over 30-40 mile run and antifreeze smell with heater on; turned heater off no loss of coolant no smell No wet carpet and no condensation either way. Still had to have dash removed to find problem though. So I now have a pressure tested OEM matrix that I have been told is in excellent condition, from a low mileage 93 supra. So if anyone wants it give me postage and its yours FOC.

  6. Hi Matrix on way out need to know dimensions and if all aluminium, surround and core itself found a place that will recore aluminium Matrix they need the to size and to workout price.   7. Yip 0.6 on cap still investigating might head gasket if cap doesn't work look like a trip to The Garage in Wishaw.

Meant 0.6 PSi Changed my rad about 6 months ago and noticed getting an air lock in system with some coolant loss can't find any leaks anywhere but noticed that expansion tank sitting about 30mm higher than max mark and noticed that there are signs of coolant on plastic tray below expansion overflow pipe, Car does not get heavy use so taken me a while to figure it out deliberatly going longer runs to get temp up. No signs of overheating, but this must be where coolant loss is from. I noticed that the rad cap that came with replacement rad is rates at 0.6 psi and and if I remeber correctly OEM is 1.1would a cap that was too low rating cause this problem thanks

  12. Getting this sometimes noise seems to be from bulkhead location, checked coolant level all OK expansion tank on limit rad down a little 5mm from bottom of cap heater works OK and more impotantly carpet at passenger footwell dry. checked when engine cold.
