  1. After waiting 2 weeks and not hearing anything I chased them up and then the next day the agreed valuation came through. They have it as £35,000 and did not offer any reasons why it was slightly different to what I suggested. The process involved: Stating what I think the value is. Sending the adverts attached in my first post Plus 6 pic of the car at different angles. I also included a few taking during the full respray a few months ago. Filling our a questionnaire regarding various details such as when the car was last services, and what condition I would rate various parts of the car etc. I also included a typed note providing a few further details on the car. My docs came through when the value was agreed and my policy does appear to be with Marksturdy Maybe they are the only underwriter these days who will do an agreed value without a garage at competitive rates(?). From reading above comments it sounds like it would be very useful for people if anyone knows of an alternate underwriter for similar circumstances(?) Thanks for the responses and sharing future info. I’ll be considering using https://classic-car-valuations.com/ in future too.
  2. I am still waiting for that process to be completed and I’ll try remember to post here when done to share the info.
  3. This is a thread about getting an agreed value along with the complexities of the high value of Supras nowadays and also the implications of not having a garage. My TT auto import insurance was up soon and I got my renewal quote back from LV for £320. This sounded pretty good I thought but when I looked at the agreed value it was only £20,000. I think the last few years I have just let my policy auto renew and not considered an increase in value of the car. Having a look around at ads online I found 3 auto TTs currently for sale with prices ranging from £30,000 - £35,000. In all cases my car was lower mileage (74k), rarer higher spec GZ model, rare colour, and has very recent full respray. So I guessed I should be aiming for agreed value of around £37,500. (Does this sound about right??). I tried Lancaster insurance first and they came back with £439, pending getting value agreed. This sounded potentially ok but I had not realised at this point that not having a garage could be a problem later on with getting an agreed value. I then went back to my current insurer LV. I was asked to send 6 photos of the car (front, back, both sides, interior & engine) to the valuation team with my estimated value. This was required before a premium could be quoted. I also supplied the 3 adds I found of similar cars. Then I got back an email saying “we assume the car is kept in a garage?”. After stating that I do not have a garage, which I'm sure I mentioned to the original quoter one the phone, I found that they require any car with an agreed value of more than £20,000 to be kept in a garage. They then refused to quote for the renewal! I tried Lynbrook next, but again they would not touch me with an agreed value of what I'm looking for and without a garage. I tried Performance Direct next and pretty quickly they said if I was looking to pay less than £600 then they would not bother quoting. I didn't even get to discuss agreed value and garages. Footman James was next. They said they could accommodate no garage, but this would be reflected in the premium. They came back with £1,060. I tried Reis next. They also said the no garage is a bit of a problem and might be reflected in the price. Although they did ask about my cctv and security lights and said these might help. But they did say a tracker would need to be fitted to the car to compensate for the no garage. The policy came out as £561 and they added that fitting a tracker would “not be cheap”. I next got back to Lancaster and crossed my fingers that they would accept me not having a garage, and that this fact would not affect their existing quote too much. They confirmed not having a garage was ok. They re-ran the quote and something quite strange happened. It came back cheaper this time at around £325! (This was only a few days after the first quote of £439 - so wft happened there!?). I asked them to double check this was ok without a garage and they said it was. I added on salvage retention (£40) and legal (£35 ish). The total came to £401 which all things considered I’m pretty happy with. They are sending information regarding what I have to do to get the car valuation verified, but I think this will probably involve 6 or 7 photos of the car and a few example adverts. (I’ve tried to attach the 3 example ads I'll use as PDFs to end of this post). I will also try to post back here with details of what verifying the agreed valuation process was like with Lancaster once it's completed… Finally some of the insurers I tried were names I got off recent posts in this forum and that was very helpful. So thank you everyone that’s shared info in other threads recently. And hopefully this post will help some of you guys out who may be in a similar situation to me. Also can anyone name any insurers I missed that you would recommend for cover of similar circumstances nowadays, as that may help other people on here? (Rough personal details for insurance comparison proposes: Male, 1983, no convictions/claims etc, 20 year licence, drive other car with 10 years ncb on it’s policy, 3000 mile limit classic car policy on Supra with commuting, coil over suspension mod) The 3 reference ads as PDFs I'll try use for agreed valuation: www-autotrader-co-uk-car-details-202204275108732_advertising-location=at_cars&so.pdfwww-ebay-co-uk-itm-275029582208_hash=item40090a6180_g_at8AAOSw6F9ie0pT.pdfwww-ebay-co-uk-itm-304491115257_hash=item46e515b2f9_g_IjAAAOSwDQJiSwuC.pdf
  4. LV replied back in the week advising that they have now validated my insurance. So hopefully this thread can be useful for someone else now in the future if previously unsure how to negotiate an agreed value. Also if anyone is doing this on a TT Auto in the coming months then you can probably directly use the PDFs in the previous post.
  5. Thanks again for reply's guys. This morning I've searched around and found a number of web pages that contain sold or for sale adds for TT Autos. I've PDF'd these and sent them to LV along with the spec on me supe laid out using the template from the classified section here. I could no find any general threads on the topic of increased value of Supras in the last few years so I've touch on this in my own words at the bottom. Lets see what they come back with... Note: I've attached the PDFs to this thread in case they help someone else out some day. -------------- start of email ----------------- Dear LV, Please find spec below of my Supra in reply to discussion on agreed valuation. In additional please find attached various sold and "for sale" articles taken off the internet today. Make: Toyota Model: MIVI Supra – GZ Japanese import Year: 1996 Mileage: 60k (approx.) First recorded MOT 2003 with 41,141 miles on the clock. This will have been a mix of kilometres (from Japan) and miles put on in the UK. Assuming around 35,000 on the clock at import (35,000 kilometres / 22,000 miles) current mileage should be approximated using “odometer reading” – “13,000” miles to compensate for the change form kilometres to miles at import. Therefore approx. total mileage = 69,803 – 13,000 = 57,000 (ish) Service history: Massive folder containing receipts, servicing, old MOTs etx Modifications: Tein Coilovers Stereo Good bits: “stock looking” Never had any engine mods GZ model which came with full spec interior Rare colour. A member of the UK Supra Owners club has been searching for a green supra for around 8 months with no luck so far: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?345977-***Wanted***-Deep-Jewel-Green-Supra Bad bits: Due to cars age paint work could do with touch up in a few places History: Reported import into UK from japan 2001 4 former keepers. Last owner was a member of the MKIV Owners club and created a few threads http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?301028-Hi-finally-got-a-supra http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?301215-Cleaned-the-supra-up-abit/page2 I acquired this car back in 2014 for the Supra owners club annual “dragon ball” trip into Europe. In my ownership the car has mainly been used for weekend driving and occasional commuting. Additional notes: Several years a go a Supra TT auto could be acquired for less than £10k. The last few years have seen a dramatic price rise in the cost of all MKIV Supra. Find attached PDF documents for recent sold/for sale listings for TT auto Supras. Based on this the modest 16k requested agreed valuation should be more than acceptable in my opinion. If you disagree please feel free to supply evidence to support this. price 17500 - stock - TT auto 60k 1996 - sold part 1.pdf price 17500 - stock - TT auto 60k 1996 - sold part 2.pdf price 17996 - some mods - TT auto 80k 1993 - sale.pdf over 6 months trying to find green supra and still waiting.pdf price 19000 - mods - TT auto 75k 1996 - sale.pdf price 17989 - bad mods - TT auto 59k 1998 - sale.pdf price 17500 - stock - TT auto 84k 1993 - sale.pdf price 15499 - stock common colour - TT auto 98k 1993 - sale.pdf price 19000 - mods - TT auto 128k 1996 - sale.pdf
  6. Thanks as always for the replies guys. Last night was a bit of a panic to get home to find the insurance was being cancelled in a few hours time (i.e. today) so thus the posts above. After a few deep breaths and a closer re-read of the docs last night I found to stop the insurance being cancelled today they needed: - “a copy of your Classic Car Club valuation” or (I mis read this as and) - "6 colour photos front, back, sides, engine, interior" I was able to pass on these photos last last night via email and today the good news is that they have confirmed they are not going to cancel the insurance. (Maybe without providing photos they were suspicious of a possible fraud) However they do not value the car at 16k and still need proof of this. They want “any evidence to prove this or copy of your Classic Car Club valuation”. So this thread now turns into a standard "how to obtain a valuation for your car" thread like others posted recently. I guess I'll monitor the various for sale adds etc for similar specs, pass on this information and hope for the best. Ric - thanks for comments and I agree their book valuation is probably several years old and reads a lot lower than current market valuation. I guess this will become more and more of a problem for owners going forward with increasing prices and also therefore likely more owners wanting agreed valuations for their valuable assets. As for the price on mine. 16k might be low. like I said I turned similar down recently. Not really sure how to get a true market valuation...
  7. I though I’d post this bit in a separate post as this information is specific to me and not general questions like above… My Supra is a stock 1996 GZ Auto TT with 60K on the clock (see my “garage” for pics of stock Supra). I have requested 16K agreed value. This was based on what I had seen in the market recently. Also someone on here offered me just short of that value a few months ago and I turned it down. I see a thread here where rider throws out a figure of “TT Auto £20k”: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?346873-2018-agreed-value-prices-following-the-market-upwards Another recent for sale here for Auto TT but in “common” silver colour, 50% more miles and a few mods which is going for £14: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?349459-1995-TT-AUTO-89k-miles I guess I can also ask the old question “What’s it worth?” and see what other responses I get on here. However, I am doubtful if the insurer will acknowledge any of this information as "creditable" but worth a try I guess...
  8. Does this club offer a “Classic Car Club valuation” scheme? Hi guys, Recently I posted the sticky about getting classic car insurance quotes. In the end I went with LV. I received communication from them stating that they need “a copy of your Classic Car Club valuation, issued within the last 2 years”. Now they are cancelling my policy because I have not provided them with this. I see there has been a few threads recently on the topic of “agreed validation” but none asking this question... Does this club offer a “Classic Car Club valuation” scheme? I assume the answer is no as this has not been mentioned before on here (as far as I can see/search). Has anyone else had this request from LV? If so what have you done? For me to go with another insurer would not be a big problem in general. However when taking car insurance you are always asked if you have ever had insurance cancelled before. I assume if you answer yes then you will get less quotes and/or higher premiums. It looks like this will be me in the future. When taking the insurance with LV recently they did not state that they would need this “Classic Car Club valuation” Therefore I feel a little hard done by to be in this situation. I see p3te asked recently and dnk replied with a possible third-party company to use called: https://proline-paint.com/valuation/ . These have a 2 working day response time and currently I do not even have that time as have recently come back to find myself in this situation. I will speak to my insurer to see if I can get more time and also if they will credit this companies’ opinion. However the prices of Supras have risen dramatically lately and as this company does not specialise in them I am sceptical of their knowledge/market awareness. If anyone could post any relevant information and/or comments on this subject then this will help me and no doubt others in the future too.
  9. Thanks Sky for the updated contact details. Thanks Pete for updating these in this thread. The quote I did get back from sky today was over £100 more than other brokers so unfortunately I wont be able to go with you guys. Also I'm sure others, as well as me, would be interested to know why Sky, or your underwriter, wasn't able to class the Supra as valid for "Classic Car" insurance where as most other insurers would?
  10. **************** TEMPLATE Notes ************************* - Some insurers did take several days to get back to me when I tried this email so I if you are going to do the same then I advise to do this at least a few days before renewal date. - It will probably invalidate your insurance if you do not provide correct information. ****************************************************** To: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected] ; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: Classic Car insurance quotation required – Toyota Supra - Hi Insurance Broker(s), I am contacting you regarding getting a quotation for classic ( Please forward my information below to the relevant department if this email has not reached the correct destination. 11. A few years back I posted this thread listing relevant insurers and a few people said they found the contact details listed useful. Since they my insurer Footman James had always provided decent renewals so I haven’t shopped around. However, this year’s renewal quote (£433) was somewhat lacking... As it bores me so much ringing up all the different insurers and answering the same questions over and over, this year I though I’d try writing all my info in an email and sending this out to all of them first. Out of 9 insures I sent this to 5 of them replied either directly with a quote or to follow-up and arrange a quote. 1 Replied saying they were unable to quote over email and also unable to even arrange to call me back The other 3 ignored the email. So for 5 of them this at least this saved me some time!! As it might be useful again to somebody I thought I would list the contact details below that I found for the relevant insurers that members on here have been talking about recently. I did noticed quite a few now open to around 7pm on week nights so calling round doesn't have to be a lunchtime/weekend job. I’ll also log a second post below with a template for the email I sent in case anyone wants to try out this email method too. If you do, then please post a reply letting others know how you got on. Also for any template typos or edit suggestion please post and I’ll try and update it, or I’m happy for others to edit the below post to make these changes if anyone has access to do this. No code has to be inserted here.
  12. Hmm... I wonder how much my stock green 1996 GZ Auto 60k would be worth these days
  13. A nice looking black Supra just drove past me as I waking on foot out of Loughborough on the way towards Quorn. Had a nice stock look from the quick glance I got, Anyone from here??
  14. Red on A46 Thursday saw you about 20 mins after leaving Stratford-Upon-Avon. I was in my Green Supra going the other way.
