The mkiv Supra Owners Club

About This Club

Focal point for GE coil-pack conversions. Currently there are a few Club members who have N/A-T 2JZA80-GE engines running on multiple coil-packs and there's a growing interest in this conversion. MA70-GTE CPS with 2JZA80-GTE VVTI Coil-Packs and Ignitor is recognised as the way to go. However, consequent to build differences and/or available component(s) prices at the time, there are several ways of skinning this cat which leads to confusion and old wives tales. The pages below are for a collation of information to help decide which way to do it and how to go about it. Members of this Group can subscribe and enable alerts to updates of latest news and information. Should further information be needed, on request I give my telephone number by p.m. This is for talking in old money, NOT torture by text. After the comprehensive information collated below has been considered, please.

  2. Whifbitz now offer this option. They trialled the install on my own car due to me requesting a non dizzy ignition setup. The cost of coils is way cheaper than OEM or even replicate GYE coils. No ignitor also needed. Winning for standalone options. I run Syvecs. Wired from ECU direct to coils. They sit a bit high. Compared to NA cam covers. And you'll need a FFIM to use the standard coil. Though I think Whifbitz now provide a lower smaller coil size if you want to maintain the OEM intake. Personally. It's an easy win the FFIM. Yes. It's a ball ache. But it gives you more room afterwards in all areas. Plus GE intake typically flows less. All depends on your funds of course.

  25. Sourcing used GTE ignition components can be a challenge, so if you spot any up for sale please link them here. Thank you.
  26. N/A-T with stock GE single-coil ignition works fine up to a point where closing the plug gap (reducing the efficiency of the spark) will no longer prevent boost blowing out the spark. The more efficient TT multi coil-packs ignition system(s) cures this and it's such a cheap, simple and better way of doing it in the first place, why not? Why do you think Mr T. put coil-packs on turbo'd J's and later upgraded the GE in VVTI form with coil-packs? The 3 coil VVTI system is more efficient than the earlier 6 coil system, which also conveniently fits nicely under the N/A induction and can be used with a TT ECU on N/A. There's no longer a distributor and/or cap to get in the way of the turbo plumbing and it looks cool too. Ignition upgrade = Win Can run more boost =Win Space for turbo & induction = Win Easily sourced OE components = Win Cheap used components = Win Easy to do = Win Mostly plug & play = Win Looks cool = Win
