I'd want that £35 back. If you write a check, you expect it to be cashed a max of 10 days later.

Lets face it, that isnt going to happen lol

Its always a good idea to try and keep a little in reserve just incase.. so things like this dont happen. Surely its up to them to cash it when they want. I know its a pain for you.

I believe so - been semi stung by this before, not charged - but left with a great big WTF!?!? Hole in my account 5 months after writing a cheque... forensic accounting followed for the win!

I hate cheques and avoid them for these very reasons. I forget about them then suddenly a wodge of money disappears.

No longer date limits on cheques. I cashed one that I found which was 4 years old lol.

It was from my nan so I warned her first :D

Do you know if there actually is no time limit any more, or if you got lucky with the Cashier not noticing the date, and the amount not being big enough to raise any eyebrows when it was processed? ;)

I'll have to ask the missus now, she works in banking. Apparently lots of cheques go through the system that should never clear (wrong names, no signature, altered).

Im sorry but I feel this is unfair, do you write loads of cheques and make no provision to ensure that funds are available. A cheque is valid for 6 months and if it was an old account you should have ensured that the bank was aware that money was outstanding on the account.

I know MkIV stores has not been in the best light recently but this rant is unjustified and should be laid squarely at your door

I used to work for NatWest and as far as i know its 6 months. I think the 4 year one was lucky. Some time agao we paid for a family meal by cheque, approx £100 and was never cashed. Probably 10 years ago.

Nah, you write a cheque, you expect it to be cashed and allow for that - sorry Jon

Im guessing this wasnt intentional Jon... Martins been trying to bring in all the money owed.. and you owed him...

I for one am sorry you incurred charges, you do know charges are illegal and there is a website that guides you how to get all charges ever taken to be refunded.. If you can be bothered with a few letters... I can find the website if you like...

Really? I'd be very interested in that. Anyone else know anything about this/had any experience of it?

:yeahthat:

Write a cheque and leave money in their until it has been taken out. You must of thought you got away without paying.
