View Full Version : Larger 17cm Speaker Brackets - Group Buy Possible
Hi guys,
Waiting a reply from the mods once I've got all the details, but there is a possible group buy on the customer made speaker brackets as per Robs guide here:
http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?p=1259809#post1259809
These allow you to fit larger 17cm (6.5") speakers than the poofy 10cm that are currently accomodated by the door cards. :)
Cost is pretty minimal, but final prices are being worked out this week.
Pop down your name if interested as a minimum of 30 ideally are required.
Thanks ;)
Greg
Hey Greg - is there really a need for these as Sextons didn't believe so.

What are you on about IMI? Do you think 4" is better in the front?
I think ABS mounts, if they are thick enough to be very stable and rigid is a sterling idea. Even better if they were carbon fibre. The ideal mount would have ZERO flex in it. Perspex would be awful. MDF comes apart if it gets wet, so painting MDF would be a good idea.
Thanks Chief.
Phil (supplier) said he could prime, paint and finish if needed for minimal cost too. :)
Imi - I need them and so do others just to accomodate larger and more powerful speakers mate. I'm not a 'Bass in the Place London' fan with a boom box in the back. I just want some decent sound up front. ;)

no no; perhaps i should have been clear... i have 6.5" speakers in the front but these are installed without any such mounts....
when i asked sextons whether these were needed, the reply was that they were not necessary.

These are so cheap it not worth the effort to go out to the garage and make them yourself.
I'll have a set of ABS plastic and I dont mind paying more if they can be made with a bit more beef on them.

Ah so how is yours mounted?

hmm - good question. I think they are mounted straight onto the door cards themselves.....:search:

IMI your robbing yourself of a load of sound. A speaker works by vibrating air, so if the mounted speaker can vibrate in any way it will cancel the freq of the vibration (noads and inti noades) so it works against itself. The ideal mount is the most stable thing you can achieve, hence why thick ans stiff ABS is good in many ways.
I'll be doing a front install soon, so if I can get the motivation i'll maybe do a photo shoot and an RTA comparison of a solid vs not so solid mount. The RTA never lies lol.
No problems Chief. :) I'm getting some quotes from Phil for these at the mo. They are stronger and resistant to heat/cooling which is good.
Imi - if they're anything like mine mate, the twat previous owner mounted the 10cm ones with duct tape!, then the brackets are worth it! :) However, if they were fitted at Sextons then I doubt you need to wqorry how they were mounted as they're probably spot on!
What you need to realise is I, and maybe others on the forum, are not 'speaker mounting' literate! ;) or simply don't have the time to piss about.

Hey Chief - you've given me good advice in the past....looking forward to the photo shoot (get some ladies in the shots too - they'll enjoy the vibration) :D
