Glosphil
Hi guys, pulled off a bit hard earlier and the wheels spun etc, and a load of smoke came out from underneath and an awful burning clutch smell that lasted for ages. Clutch seems fine now but is this a sign of the clutch going ? its a stock twin turbo with a stock (I guess) clutch. If it is on its way out, is a paddle clutch what I should go for ? whats a ballpark fitted price ? Cheers
steb9780
Try nailing it in 5th and 6th from low revs, as soon as you try loading it with torque it should start to slip. By that I mean the revs will really pick up, but it'll seem like you're not going to much faster. That's what happened with mine.
DaveK
The best way to check for a knackered clutch is to put the handbrake on, then try pulling away in first. If the engine revs freely, your clutch is fried. If it stalls, your clutch is OK.
uk-rich
early signs of clutch failure tend to show themselves in the higher gears, under full load
Glosphil
Ok well the engine stalls and doesnt rev in 5-6 when ramping it. So I guess its ok ? but it just cant handle the power of a launch?
AJI
agreed the best test is to load it up in the high gears. If it is slipping you will notice it on full boost in 5th and 6th.
