Been told that my tappets are slightly noisey & need to be re-shimmed.

My Supra has 70000 miles on the clock

1.Just wondered if this is a common thing ???????

2.what causes this to happen ???????

3.What sort of cost is this job to be done ??????

4.What difference will you know once shimming has been done ??????

I used Silokene Pro Synth 10-50 oil & always changed every 3000 miles

1. Yes, its a service item missed by 99% of services done of these cars

2. Wear and tear

3. Not great, 2-3 hours work, plus parts

4. Slightly smoother running and the knowledge your engine is tip-top :D A MUST before going BPU or single conversion

2 to 3 hours. yeah, right! :) 5 hours plus, more like, assuming nothing goes "wrong". Factor in time and hassle making, or ordering shims, too. Ever tried asking a Toyota dealer for tappet shims? Most will never have ordered one in their whole history :)
