Atttention: Ganador Mirror owners

There are quite a lot of members who have these. There is a problem that can happen so I thought I would post up advice to stop it. The problem is water getting into the electrical connector, corroding (turns green – copper sulphate??) and the mirror motors stop working.

The Ganador mirrors can let in more water into the mirror mount holes than stock mirrors, as they don't have a good gasket. The stock mirrors have a nice rubber gasket. With the Ganador it's just a bit of foam! This lets in water and causes corrosion on the electrical connectors for the stock mirror loom.

I've had my mirrors for 2 years and recently all the mirror motors stopped working, one by one on both mirrors because of this problem. I also noticed a bit of oxidisation on the actual black connector of the Ganador loom that connects to the Ganador mirror PCB board. It’s the connector that attaches the Ganador loom to the stock mirror loom (White connector) that is more important to waterproof.

I've now cleaned up the connectors and used a bit of WD40 to drive out moisture and it's all working fine but I have sealed the connectors with electrical tape. If you find large enough heat shrink then that will be better. This will give the connectors more protection against water.

Best to do it soon when you have spare time rather than the inconvenience of dead mirror motors. It was scary trying not to kerb my new alloy wheels whilst parking, without having the use of the mirrors!

I do have my car jet washed often so obviously this accelerates the corrosion as more water is forced into the mirror mount holes.

Cheers,

Ro

Cheers mate.

The paint used on my mirrors actually dissolved the foam, so I bought some high quality stuff from trade thats also weather and water proof which made a much better fit.

Hope that should prevent any problems.

Where did you get the stuff from Edd?

Cheers,

Ro

Ah, the joy of after market stick on parts.

Lol, yes!
