View Full Version : Mobile phones: Redemption deals.
Hi guys, anyone had experiance with redemption deals on mobile phone contracts?
600mins, 400txts normally £45 a month, down to £22.50 on redemption. 12 month contract, the redemption deal is on for 12 months. This is with Three, i am currently with O2.
Obviosly i told O2 about this, they explain how redemption deals are a PITA and to steer clear (obviosly as they want to keep me)
So they have offered me 250mins, 550txts for £25 a month and a N73 for £29.99 with a bluetooth headset. Which is i think isnt too bad :)
Advise please?
Daman keep away from Three i had nothing but trouble with them i pay a little extra for a better service and reception
O2 where great but are still sending me threating letters 2 months after my contract ended! they are getting a nasty letter or call soon!

To be honest mate O2 are a pretty damn good network to be on overall.
3 on the other hand, arent. There is a lot of really annoying stuff on 3 like the fact you dont have wap. I know a whole host of people that went 3 and swiftly returned!
Im not sure what the redemption thing is, but if its the same thing i experienced with orange than stay the hell away. Basically i had my contract reduced in price by 10% as I was told that this was in return for being a loyal customer. What they didnt tell me was this was instead of having all my free texts and free minutes!! So i was left paying a £30 month contract with no free perks!
Sounds bad right! Well in the end I had to buy my own contract out early costing me over £150 and switched to O2 deal of 750 minutes any network any time and 750 free texts. Suits me much better, and i will probably not change from that now ever, as I am happy to just leave that now.
One final note, is that the mobile phone industry has reached a saturation point, there are simply no new customers to be had!! People simply switch from network to network. Good news for you is you need to take advantage of this fact with 02. Tell them you want to switch to a better deal but you really want to stay with them too. They should then match any better deals you find.
The redemption basically works like this.
You pay the £45 a month bill and at cirtain intervals you claim that half price discount back. IE every 3 months or so.
So after you have paid £135 over 3 months, you send them your bill and they then send you half of that via a cheque. Sounds a bit of a PITA tbh.......
£35 a month is a bit excessive for me, £25 a month would be my limit. I just cant justify the extra :(
Out of interest, how much are you guys paying for O2 contracts?
Any comments on the N73, i like the idea i can load TomTom Navigator on.....
I don't know how O2 can bad mouth redemptions as I have done 2 redemption contracts with them before. I honestly didnt have a problem with it, you just make sure that you put your monthly bills in a safe place and at the appropriate time send a load of them off and wait for a cheque.
Worked fine for me anyway.

I'm with 3 and have had no problems, and I also did the redemption thing and it was fine.
Out of interest guys, who did you deal with redemtion wise? The service provider or the company that sold you the phone?

The company that sold you the phone... They actually make money on the commision of the line they sell to you and also they offer crap phones so they save on that too. After that they are able to offer cashback. Tbh most people never claim it back because you have to keep a record of all the bills etc and after 6 months are you really gona go back and claim? Hassle, time etc  i never did.
Ahem. We offer these deals via voiceblast - also, get a free xbox, lcd screen deals. The commission we make on the new boxes, combined with the fact that people send their forms in late / incorrect etc makes it very profitable.
Redemption deals, donta just lovem.
Unless you read the small print, are really organised and have the patience of a saint, dont touch em.
Lol, I guess I managed to do all three of those! Like I said, worked out fine for me - I used Dialaphone, and it did exactly what it said in the documents, so no complaints from me. But I can see why people would be worried and why it's not for everyone.
