Can everyone who is coming/thinking about coming please PM me their email address and I'm send you some info. Ta! :)

Confirmed plan...

10:00am meet at the Bluebell Pub, Malvern (10 mins from M5 J7). Roughly here (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&search_result=&db=pc&lang=&keepicon=true&pc=WR143QP&advanced=&client=public&addr2=&quicksearch=WR14%203QP&addr3=&addr1=), slightly to the left of the circle but unmissable.
10:30am depart, via a nearby road for a snap of the cars in front of the Malvern Hills.
Head out to the Brecons (PM me for route details - I'll also print some on the day) - total just under 200 miles, taking in plenty of;

twisty bits
fastish bits
fast AND twisty bits! :D
a tunnel
3~4 photo stops along the way
pub finish

After trying the route out in the Scorpio (see photos) I expect we'll be at the pub for about 4ish.

Ask any questions you may have, throw in any suggestions you may have, but most importantly - get your names down...

A few photos of bits of the route/suggested photoshoot spots are attached.
---
Questions answered:
Where is Malvern?
- Malvern is 10 mins from M5 J7 (from the North) or M50 J1 (from the South). Click here for a map (http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=375000.749965819&Y=250000.655617443&width=700&height=400&gride=378668.749965819&gridn=245975.655617443&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=freegaz&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&keepicon=true&zm=0&out.x=5&out.y=7&scale=500000).

Petrol
- There is a Texaco petrol station 8 miles into the route (98 RON), and a Shell station 60 miles into the route (V POWER).

Food
- There is a roadside burger bar thing we could stop at, it is roughly half way through the route, is in a massive car park, and is at a spot with really nice views.... I will poll opinion on the day. :)

10 mins from M5 J7 matey

I'm thinking very carefully about where is a sensible place to meet, so that everyone can find it. Will provide detailed maps/directions nearer the time, and dish out my mobile number just in case. :)

EDIT: I've added an overview map to the first post.

Now, now Lads, let us not bring females into the equation!

Looks like the snow will keep you all at home anyway so I won't miss anything after all.....woo, ha, ha, ha, ha, wooohh, ha ha! .............I hope.

Hopefully the sodding wedding is off. I might declare my reasons for why they cannot be married in matromony and leg it down to the meet :)

Greg

SteveR
09-02-07, 20:15
It's next weekend, not this weekend Greg. The snow might stop me from going on a reccie tomorrow but hopefully will have shifted by Sunday (10DegC forecast). Think I've found some ace roads, but want to check them out in advance. Will bring back dodgy phone pics of sections of the route if I make it out. :)

SteveR
11-02-07, 15:48
I went out this morning to try out the roads I had in mind, and see how long it might take to drive them.

The roads really are a mix of every type so there will be something for everyone. A late night alteration to my planned route last night means I've stumbled across what may have just become my favorite UK road. Wide, fast, flowing, little/no traffic (I saw 1 car, which I promptly overtook), excellent visibility... I am in love! :D

Plus, there are 3~4 fantastic spots for photoshoots (my camera doesn't do them justice)! We do have to go well off the beaten track for 7~8 miles to get to one of them, but it's well worth it, and has the bonus of cutting us through to the bit of road I mentioned above.

In total it's just under 200 miles, which I did in a bit over 4 hours earlier today (so add about an hour to that for stops/photoshoots). I've varied the route out/back to minimise going over the same tarmac twice, but there are some 'cruising' bits along motorway/dual carriageway to get us into/out of the Brecons which ups the average speed and reduces the petrol bill... oh, and that takes through a tunnel, twice! ;)

Photos to give you an idea of some of the more rural roads are now attached to the first post. There is also plenty of primary A road fun, plus the motorway & dual carraigeway stuff I mentioned above. BTW clearance isn't an issue, even a lowered Supra would be fine.

Any questions, just ask. If you miss this run, don't worry, I WILL be doing it again in a few months... :)

No idea at this point in time. I think it's meant to rain all week so hopefully (fingers crossed) there won't be any rain left come the weekend.

That said, we are heading to Wales, and into the mountains (a bit) and the weather is notoriously changeable/unpredictable. When I went out yesterday it rained half a dozen times and was glorious sunshine in between. At one point I'm freezing and half being blown off my feet whilst taking photos, the next minute (literally!) I'm peeling layers off as I'm roasting, lol. :)

BBC's 5 day forecast reckons sunshine and 10DegC for Saturday at the moment, but it's so far in advance I'm not going to hold my breath just yet...

Can't you leave the brand new little one (congrats BTW!) to sort out selling the boat? ;)
At least come out in your slippers with a mug of tea and say hi to us before we set off - I've seen your car twice a day for months, but still haven't met you, lol :)

Fine with me mate, don't see any reason why not :)

Food - I've put in that we'll stop half way and enjoy a nice view by a burger van, we'll end at a pub (~teatime) plus there will be a petrol station stop for chocolate/crisps, that should see you through? :D

For breakfast, there is always a really good greasy spoon cafe/takeaway on your way into Malvern - they'll fry you a breakfast and throw it into a bagette - want directions? :)

lol, sorry :D
Would you really have come all the way over here to Malvern, and then on to 200miles of the Brecons though? Fair play if you would, I'd have been terrified of such a mental journey the day I got my car!

What am I saying, I drove mine from newcastle, to Sheffield (when I demo'd it to a few friends - at WOT of course, lol), on to Derby, then eventually all the way back down here. Thinking about it, I'm clearly mental.

Thanks for the invite Steve.

While my car may be turbocharged and have ~ 200bhp/ton, it is also Swedish and FWD :)

Supras have always seemed like interesting cars, so it would be nice to come along and see some. Being a Saab driver, I will resist the temptation to take a caravan with me

Forecast looks a little damp, but surely that adds to the fun?

oops, lol. Thought you were serious about the food. I think we'll still stop at that burger van anyway - if nothing else the car park it's in makes it easier to turn round after the reserviour photostop. :)

Yep, it's a trip of just (and I mean just) under 200 miles :D Some of it is motorway though, so despite the back road bits, an average sped of 50+ (exclusing stops of course) is still do-able. :)

I will PM the route map to people who are down as coming/interested tonight. I would post it up for all to see, but won't... just in case... :sly:

Jo can - she goes like a woman possessed! After the last meet I was gently cruising at 70mph on the M5 when I see these headlights in the distance behind me....get much closer very quickly.. who was it? Jo driving Bernard.

There he was sat in the passenger seat grinning like a fool making cowboy riding a horse type motions and fake whipping Jo in the driving seat. I could hear the "Yea Haawwws" from the inside lane above the stereo as they sped off into the sunset.

Burna
16-02-07, 10:47
:rlol: Yeeeeehaaaaaaw! Jo was determind to catch you up mate  She loves it.

She did the same to all the Japworcs lot on the way back to Ste's house from a summer meet. I was passenger in a mates Skyline when he says "Here comes Jo!" before i had chance to turn around the car was just a black blur as it shot pass us all :faint:

Very strange feeling watching your own car do that but there's nothing sexier than seeing a woman drive a Supra ;)

Will upload our photos ASAP but I (we) thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will definitely organise a similar event in the next few months, maybe a couple of times....

Nice pics Gavin :) I don't actually recognise some of the roads/shots you've taken, which is odd!! :D

All you ladies that didn't make it out this time need to come out next time. :p

Commiserations to Max :( I am really gutted for you.... :(

Overall, I loved the day out (I hope Belly, Andy, Carl & Severnman did, too), and hopefully its taught me a lot about organising group events. Next time I want 100 cars ;)

Photos to follow....

SteveR
19-02-07, 21:21
Here are a few of my/Kate's pics.
Carl - where are your pics?? You seemed to have the beefiest looking camera??

The weather stayed dry, so the roads were fantastic (IMHO) and I had a very 'spirited drive' tussle with a motorbike - it was amazing - it's moments like that you know what being alive is and what driving is all about. I did have to remind myself I was still on public roads! :innocent: If you're out there mr mentalist motorbike rider man, I hope you didn't mind losing! :D

The mist spoiled the pictures slightly, well, that's my excuse for planning to run the trip again in the Summer.... ;)

Thanks to all those who came and showed an interest. As always it was great to meet new faces and see those I already knew, again. I didn't want the numbers to be massive (hence "mini-meet") as I wanted to see how organising one of these events would go, without letting anyone down. I was pretty pleased with the result - hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves - and I now have a few ideas on how to improve it further, and make it more accessible for more people to come next time. Watch this space.... ;)
