RANT TIME!!

Why is it that the UK DVLA will quite happily convert my South African license directly for a UK one, but insurance companies wont.

My fiancee has more than 10 years of driving experience, last accident, was 4 years ago.

I have more than 10 years driving experience, last accident 6 years ago.

Yet no insurance company will consider that. They will only look at the fact that I have had my UK license for a year.

WTF!!! This is annoying the P*SS out of me!!

I had this problem when I first tried to insure my supra. Now the wife wants a WRX wagon, for the AWD (better than a CLIO) and they wont insure her...

This is F***ING ridiculous!!!!

RANT OVER

But still P*SSED!!!

My g/f has the same problem. Been driving since about 1920 but because she only moved to the UK last year she had to insure with no NCD. And - some people won't insure her anyway because she has a "European" license not a UK one.

Some companies should take it into consideration, its the same for company car drivers, they get jack squat in terms of no claims bonus.

OK - 1920 might have been an exaggeration. She's been driving since 1985 I think - she was 40 last month.

Got even more p*ssed, but then went to gym.

Phoned DirectLine, and they said in order to insure a 2001 WRX Sportswagon, and they tell me I have to have 2 years on my license and 2 years no claims.

They told my fiancee 1 year NCB and license. Bloody double standards!!

ARRGH!!!! At least I am not the only one cursing their names!!!

My mom had a problem trying to change her south african license to a UK one many years ago. They said she would have to retake her test.

She just laughed at them and put the phone down!

Eventually she got it changed over

they are now quite happy to change it, but never tell you all bull that goes with it... I sent it in, with cash, got UK license.
