View Full Version : An annoying pop up
I have just started to get an annoying pop up when using Microsoft Outlook.
It is the one whereby it comes up and asks you to put in your password when connecting to the mail server. I put my password in and then tick the "remember me2 box but it is still coming up all the time.
I currently use the TalkTalk server and mailbox on outlook and also use Googlemail with a forwarding function to send from there to my TalkTalk email address.
Is there anything in settings I can tweak to stop this? Or, alternatively, is there any reason why it should have just started?
If you go into the account settings in outlook, you should be able to put the password in there, as well as the remember me bit.
That was done already
Not the best way around it, but try put the wrong password into it.
Has your password changed recently, it might have cached the old password.
It is the grey box that asks to "enter network password".
What accounts do you have setup on outlook, that almost sounds like it is an exchange/domain password that it is looking for.

I don't think I have changed the password  I will clear the cache, shut down and see what happens then.

Just the TalkTalk one.
This often happens when the mail provider is having 'issues' - chances are it will fix itself when they sort themselves out.
Let me know if you don't come right.. I assume you use outlook for more than just email.. Calendar and the like?

Yeah, very good point, usually when they do account maint, it breaks email things. I used to get my dad phone me within 5 mins of my ISP doing work.. He was even quicker than the outage emails.

I was thinking along these lines too. I hadn't changed anything and prior to today it had been working fine.

Yes, calender etc.
Yes, calender etc.
Ah was going to suggest using something like Mozilla Thunderbird if it was purely a mail thing.
This happens when the server is having issues (overloaded, busy backing up, crashed) and thus your client cannot authenticate.
Nothing you need to change, just wait and see if your provider sorts it out.
This is pretty common with pop3 based email, especially if your outlook is configured to poll for new mail more regularly then 10 minute intervals. try making it wait longer.
Thanks for all the help guys - much appreciated. ;)
Time to get your own mail hosting I reckon...
There are a few calendar style programs out there as well, which you could put on the web to access from anywhere.

I get a similar thing at work usually means my passwords expired? :search:
passwords on pop3 accounts don't normally expire, that may be your log on password

Where do I alter the settings for that? I use Windows XP and Outlook

Yeah it is but the exchange server would need authentication as well. Like I say thats at work if its your home PC ignore me :D

You're interested in his pop ups? ;)
you gave them to him I understand
you gave them to him I understand
I didn't give him a virus. ;)
where did virus come from? I understand it was a plain old 'pop up'
well, the pop up problem is still here and even worse is the fact that the line speed is now down to 56k! :(
I have just got off the line to TalkTalk and they are next to bloody useless. After keeping me holding for over 10 minutes, a lady from India then tells me that I should do 6 speed tests, log the results and then ring them back tomorrow. Her reasoning was that it may be a problem due to increased trafic.
I explained that I had done the speed tests since yesterday and that the results all showed a crap line speed. Off she went again and came back in 15 minutes to tell me that she has reported the fault to a level 2 technician and that they will look into it and come back to me with 48 hours.
Oh I really wish I had not gone with these bunch of bloody cowboys! :(
Get onto Demon or Metronet, they both have excellent cust service, not the cheapest but then when you have a problem you'll see where the extra dosh goes.
Have a look on www.adslguide.org there are some ISP reviews on there

Unfortunately, I have signed up with this crock of shit for the next 12 months or so. :(
