Anyone know what the power is of the stock headunit amp ??

would putting better speakers in improve matters , or are the headunits beyound redemption???

It depends on what OEM head unit you've got, Toyota put a few different ones in over the years.

An upgrade to the stock speakers will make a considerable difference to the sound quality, and is probably the starting point, if you're not sure how good the OEM head unit is.

If you still don't like the sound you can always upgrade the head unit afterwards.
Saying that, if you're into ground shaking bass, and having a car that sounds like a mobile disco, you may as well do it all at once ;)

Personally, I'd spend the money on a decent sounding exhaust system :D

I think the original import TT stereo is about 2 Watts!

Best way to improve sound is using an aftermarket head unit and bypassing the stock amp providing your stock speakers have not disintegrated. For best result use a aftermarket HU with aftermarket speakers
