Guys,

Fronts are a pile of shit on a stick. Rears have been upgraded to some decent pioneers, but want to sort out the fronts. Want a bit of bass to them as there's bugger all in the car at the mo.

Any links, suggestions and fitment guides would be really appreciated.

I know it's a moon on a stick, but I want as little work to fit these as possible, so I take it I'll have to stick to the 10cm speakers and play with the 3 to 4 hole conversion?;)

Thanks,

Greg

Don't think you'll ever get any decent bass from 10cm cones :( I've just fitted new speakers all round - details are on:

Had to make up mounts to convert 3 to 4 screw holes, which to be quite honest is probably just as much hassle as making up the full 17cm mounts. If you've got decent speakers in the rear then they can provide the bass while the fronts are effectively mids/tweeters. My setup is sounding pretty good - certainly much better than stock. Would probably recommend going for the full 17cm job on the fronts though - having fitted 10cm ones there ain't much bass to speak of.

Greg,

My front speakers have died, I am also on a budget and got some of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KENWOOD-KFC1050S-CAR-SPEAKERS-BRAND-NEW-110W-4-10cm_W0QQitemZ220067943544QQihZ012QQcategoryZ14938QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

They have snap off lugs for mounting so you can remove one and screw 3 in.

"With a bit of bass" and 10cm just don't work in the same post I'm afraid. You really need something bigger. It's not too much hassle if you use the template and have some wood work tools.
I made my own ok.

Thanks guys and cheers for the linkies peeps.

I can't be arsed to fit a 'boom' box or anything you see. Just want something that handles the bass well enough that it doesn't cackle!

Nick - have you fitted these yet then mate? Any good?

Ok Pete - where can I find some decent 17cm speakers then, or anyone else here, that I can use with custom brackets? I'm very new to car audio and ICE. I just like decent mid, clear treble and some good bass. ;)

Thanks,

Greg

I use some Alpine Type Rs that are pretty good, but that was mainly as my whole system is Alpine and found it all to be generally very good quality stuff. They're component speakers too so you'll need to decide where to locate the tweeters. Replacing the stock ones isn't something I'd entertain.

Speaker bracket templates are on the site somewhere and are designed for 17cm I believe?

Ive just checked my front speakers and the front door one are 18cm across, not sure what the back ones are as they are behind a large square cover. There are also ,what looks like small tweeters each side near the windscreen...Are these all the std fitment. 1996 pre facelift TT.
Incidentley the speakers are shite, my standard Vectra speakers are like state of the art in comparison to the soops

Sorry for the slight hi-jack
