looking for a sub that can do 300watts RMS or somewhere near that, i was looking at a JL audio 12W3 but if i want to use the voice coil properly i was told that i need to run the wires from the terminals on the speaker to the teminals on the other side of the speaker but if i am not right this lowers the impedance. the guy i bought my new alpine amp off said it needs to be the 4 ohm version and 4 ohms when its bridged too to keep my sound system stable, does this mean i need a 6 ohm sub? to have it lower to 4 ohms when bridged ?

this is the amp that will be running it

you want to be having somthing what is matched, ie 4ohm amp, 4ohm sub, 2ohm etc
Wiring the sub diffrently will give 4ohm and 2ohm capabilitys as long as the voicecoil can support it.
Another thing to consider is that alpine always state there stats at 14.47 volts. your car runs at 12v so there never going to be that high.
I would try go for the 300W typeR sub what used to be out, the newer version i think is 400rms i maybe mistaken, but if your not wanting to buy new, get one of the older typeR's 300rms on the money.
if you want to run that sub in parallel for the amp to run in mono and see 4 ohms you will need 8 ohms coils(these in parallel will be seen as 4 ohms)
just for your info you dont need to run these subs like this
i have a 12w3v2 running in summed stereo as the amp i have is stable in 2 omh.this is ok as long as the 2 channels are producing the same,ie summed stereo, left and right added together but the amp still in stereo mode
hope this helps
