View Full Version : RAF Marham Trackday
Ok, ladies and gents...
Bit of a heads up there will be a Track Day at RAF Marham (Kings Lynn) 15th april.
I dont have any details as of yet, but will keep you all posted.
Also, this is probabably one of the only trackdays in the UK with NO NOISE RESTRICTIONS ;)
Also also - the track is available for private hire too, at quite good rates, with the money going to charity. We have an event in feb, 50 places went within 3 hours. :D:D
The feb event is for the lancer register... ;) Simon Norris and RC developents are coming ;)
wish they done track days for cars at cottesmore only ever bikes
Might be worth the trip. :) I fancy a V-Max type run.
Looking forward to this. :)

Im definatly there
This event is always a good one.:) No restrictions, WIDE track, Long runway and some tricky bits. And if your unlucky enough to spin off at over a Ton (like me) there is just lots of grass and nothing to hit.
I think I might be out of the country for this one though.:(

Hi mate,
I was going to attend via another forum. Obviously helmets are a must but apparantly a fire extinguisher too?

Helmets yes, extinguisher no, we will have 2 aircraft fire trucks to use - and they are QUICK!
Will there be helmets available there on the day or is this a case of bringing your own?
Will there be helmets available there on the day or is this a case of bringing your own?
its a case of bring your own, or borrow. I've just gone and bought one :D
I bought my crash hat for this event. The way I saw it, the money saved over a normal track day allowed me to go out and by a new one!
Exactly, it normally cost £20 to rent one on a track day, but new ones can be had for £40. Going to go and get one later :D

Hi Darryl,
Let me know where you get one from (I'm assuming you will hunt around for a good price!) :D
Cheers,
Ro
OK ladies and gents, this is the offical line from the organiser, and my boss..
"The track uses a combination of the airfield's main runway and taxiways, which for the benefit of new members and those who couldn't make it before, results in a track that is around 4 miles long of wide, smooth tarmac and concrete with bags of safe run offs - as a whole, the shape is roughly triangular, but with the width of the runway and taxiway there is ample scope to create everything from sweeping curves to chicanes and there are plenty of curvy bits to add to the challenge.
It will run to the same sort of timings as before, from around 10am to 4pm on the Saturday six 30-minute sessions, and from 10 am to 4pm on the Sunday, with six 30-minute sessions. All being well, they will probably look to combine later sessions to run longer, open pit lane sessions. As before, all the necessary facilities, such as toilets, catering, drinks, marshalling and medical cover to support the event will be on hand.
You will need a helmet, normal seat belts as a minimum. A Fire Extinguisher would be nice. Race suits are not needed, but preferably natural fibre clothing with full sleeves and legs. Cars must be road legal with a current MOT or, if a race vehicle, licensed for a current MSA series. Sharing a car is OK (i.e. alternating drivers between sessions) and drivers are allowed to carry passengers, but they must also comply with regard to helmet, clothing etc. The entry fee is per car entered, not per driver but all drivers and passengers will need to sign a disclaimer. Spectating is not a possibility unless the individual is coming to assist someone who is driving - the reason for this is quite simple - the event insurance premiums and Health & Safety requirements go through the roof astronomically otherwise, so by restricting it to participants and assistants, it makes the event manageable, safer, more relaxed and enjoyable and importantly keeps the cost down to you.
As those who have been before know, the atmosphere and event is relaxed, enjoyable and relatively safe. So, for those who wish to gather to exercise their steeds, classic or modern, in the way that was intended when they were built, this will be available again for the incredibly good value of £60 on the Saturday and £60 for the Sunday, OR £100 for the weekend. No money is needed yet.
The usual personal and vehicle details (full name, address, date and place of birth, vehicle type and registration number) will be needed to access RAF Marham which can be passed to myself"
So, there you go. As a reminder, I am the POC for this event on this forum, and thankyou to those who have passed on there interest/details
What I will also say, that RAF Marham IS an operational RAF station, supporting assets overseas, SO is may be possible that the event could be cancelled at short notice.
Thanks for your time.
Im up for this, look forward to it.:)

Have a good one.:)
I can’t seem to find when Bolney is but it’s usually on a Saturday.
I think Sunday is looking like the preferred day so far, would be great if all of us could make it on the same day

Oi! you cheeky git!
Angie and myself were there last year as were McGoo and Robbie!
Will the track/runway be swept this year? I don't want to put anyone off going, but I think it only fair to point out that last year I had to spend £1000 having the entire front of my car resprayed due to serious stone chipping. Granted I did do a couple of runs filming Angie,(so was driving close-ish) but there was too much grit on the track.
Great track and had a lot of fun, but I'd advise everyone to get some of that clear removeable film to cover up the front of the car - it'll save you a lot of money! Probably the fastest/longest straight you'll ever drive on!

Good point Brian. Angie and myself weren't driving AS close to people as you were and the stone chips were minimal. However, there were some.
Si, can you ask your boss if he can make sure it is swept? The problem area is from the fast left hander at the end of the runway (going clockwise) to the right hander that follows it.
It would be a shame if people were put off by this as there is SO much fun to be had here.
Brian, will the vett be making an apperance?
PM`ed my details for this.
Are there any convoys making there way down on Sunday?
Homer and JamieP are not too far from me :D

I'll have to try and and get plastic sheeting for the front of the car to make sure the thing's protected well. (Angie's trying to persuade me here...she's considering taking her Supe again)

Hi Si
A few friends of mine are going to this via a friend on Marham... Unfortunately I'm not gonna be taking the Sup round the track as it needs too much work to get it track ready at the moment.
Question is would I be able to drive onto base as a support vehicle? My mate wants someone to bring his spare wheels and tools etc...?

Brian,
I tell you situation about the track, as I'm im afghan, and I'm not back in the UK till past the cut off date, so what I suggest is that you pass on your details anyway - (as that doesnt mean you have to come.) and I'll let you know about the sweeping situation when I get back.
I was told by my boss, that the last trackday had been swept, I took my own car around and could hear much gravel etc.. on my car been flicked up from others, and there were no complaints from the other drivers.

lancer day was different, that was just a v-max event. belive me, space isnt a problem - all the cars wont be out at once! The last trackday i did we had about 75 cars, ok, not as much as 200 but wasnt crowded at all.
No complaints yet! Not even from the ferarri owners club ;)
It does sound good. I had some rear tyres fitted this morning and the guy who was fitting them said - "you know where you should take this"... "Markham"...lol
I am very tempted.. will give it some more thought. It would be worth it just to see the Jamie mobile in action.

quick question, if we put the Santa Pod day on the 14th would that be a problem? I see most of you are going on the Sunday (unless I missed a post somewhere..) so this shouldnt be a problem should it?

Info Packs will be emailed out in due time.
Right, Ladies and Gents.
A few people have PM'd me saying "i might be coming along with so and so".
I Cannot allow any more people to keep adding there names regardless if there only a passenger or hired help, concidering the cut off date was YESTERDAY! With the posibility of upto 250 cars (god knows how many people! 140 cars on sunday alone) coming over the weekend - every single person has to be vetted. The cut off date was put in place by the event organiser/my boss for this very reason. To keep adding names is just not on and makes my boss upset.
I may not be able to make this now as it looks like my car will be in the bodyshop.
sand faster!
attendance is required!
jamie - do you have a dyno sheet of your GT40 you can show me?
Damn too late. At least the car won't have the opportunity to explode before the Dragonball I suppose (touches wood). :)
I spoke to the organiser this week and he said its been full for weeks. There will be another one in september. I'm sure Si will confirm when he returns.
I am sure i will be at the airport when my ship comes in:(

Nope. no more spaces sorry, its over subscribed by 40 cars as it is, secretly the boss is hoping that some people will not turn up!!
Si, do you know of any cheap B&B's or travel lodge type places in the area? It's over a 4 hour drive for me so think it might be best to get up there on the night before.
nearest Travel lodge is 12 miles away... but here's a list of B & B's http://www.yell.com/ucs/UcsSearchAction.do?scrambleSeed=60845848&keywords=bed+%26+breakfast&companyName=&location=marham&search=SEARCH&searchType=advance
It'll be my first meeting with the attending owners on here...
is anyone heading up on the Sunday that wants a convoy buddy ?
I'll be heading up from south of Cambridge
Ladies and Gents - I have sent PMs requesting that you send me an Email, so that I can send you the trackday info pack - This is VERY important! otherwise, you wont know how to get there, or what to do!
Hhi Si
I've been following the thread, bit concerned now that, as I will be coming with a friend, due to numbers, insurance etc seems a strong possibility I may get turned away? Don't want to create awkward position for my m8 or anyone else, please advise. Not sure if others will be thinking this too?
thanks in advance
Linda
My boss did actually say, if you names not down, you are not comming in. The big problem in numbers. we're looking at about 300 cars over the weekend. thats why the cut of date was set as the RAF police have to do checks on all people coming to the event - However, there is a way around it. I can personally get you on to the camp, but I'd need to meet you at the main gate.

Ok Rob, I'll have a look at where we can meet up .
Rob, looks like it'll be easier to meet you guys there, otherwise we'd both have to make long detors to meet up...
How was it today?
I might bring a gazebo tomorrow for some shade ?!
Hi guys - how was this in the end? Would have gone but just had a little one and saving the pennies for my manual conversion.
