grahamc
I ordered APR Wing Mirrors from Paul @ GT, the flight date for them was 16/07/2006. Today I get an invoice from DHL for import VAT £15.74. Its not the money, but the fact that it took them 6 months to bill me... Is this normal??
jamesmark
It will be in the small print somewhere, I have used DHL for transatlantic (if it was transatlantic) packages and never been charged import duty. You can try the old trick it was a present as that works with parcelforce and the get rid of the charge.
2JG
I've had this happen to me a few times before, normally a week or two afterwards though. 6 months is a bit strange. Might be worth phoning them and double checking it's for that item (if it doesn't give the item description on the letter)
grahamc
It gives the item description, and who they were from, etc. I will give them a call and see what they say...
Tricky-Ricky
I had the same thing twice the first time i paid, but after checking the second i found some of the charge details incomplete, so not paid it, they did send a couple of threatening letters, then sold it to a det collection agency who threatened to take me to court, not heard anything foe 4-5 months, not paying on principal as i don't agree with the charges and they can't provide the relevant info i need. SimonB
Yeah, that's normal with DHL, they take ages to bill you for some reason. The present thing doesn't work by the way, the max value of goods you can count as a present is £36 IIRC vs £18 if it's not a present. Any more than that and you should get charged import duty & VAT. Plus it has to come from a non-company address. It's just that Parcelforce get used for normal surface mail packages which don't get checked as much as courier ones by customs, so you sometimes get away without paying for those.
