I have J-Spec with standard Toyota double din unit.I am going to change it and was thinking, does the standard unit have a seperate amp.In other words,it wont just be a case of connecting the speaker wires up and away you go?I had a similar situation with my MR2 where I ended up bypassing the standard amps.If this is the case what has everyone else done, wired up using the existing standard amps or bypassed them?Cheers for any help.

General consensus is to bypass the stock amp (it's under the pass seat).

There's plenty on here about it - just search for amp or amplifier. :)

Is it not just a case of taking a power feed wire to it off the blue power antenna wire or is there more to it?Anybody gotta wiring diagram for the standard stereo system set up?

THIS thread shows/describes it fairly well (?)

once you've connected the new Head Unit to the plugs DOWN
THE SIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION TUNNEL ! ! then the Power Amp
is effectively bypassed automatically.

MUCH easier than it seems/looks at first . . .HONEST !;)

even I'VE done it . . TWICE (and i'm a numpty !:D )

ps. . . .

you DO need that Adaptor wire/connector and the Halfords
one DOES fit (and Autoleads ??)

Age old decision of Single/Double Din Unit ??
and, if Single Din, Blank over the other half OR put a nice
cubby hole in there (ALSO available from Half's)

FatS. . . . .again.

Ok I think I done it wrong here.I am installing double din CD/MP3/DVD player on 1 slot and slide out DVD montitor in the other slot.I have so far wired up the basic live, acc live and earth wires for these units and they work, but bit confused on the speaker side.I have wired mine direct at the standard plugs I pulled out the back of the standard unit.I saw the 3 white connectors you are talking about on passenger side of transmission tunnel. You are saying wire directly to these wires insted of the original radio plug wires? How do you know which is which?

Because that HALFORDS (or other) loom 'adaptor' plugs into
the white plugs down the tunnel and then gives you standard
ISO sockets at the Head end . . .

you've just 'self-adapted' the original sockets a bit ??

nothing wrong with that (?) just easier to do the adaptor way ?

unless your new Head Unit(S) don't have ISO's {?????}

FatS.

No They dont have ISOs but thats no problem I can sort them out once I located the feeds off them.Sorry to appear thick but I understand you plug your halfords loom into the 2 plugs on passenger side of tunnel.Do you leave the remaining 1 plug of the 3 connected? And once I have done this will it mean the stock amp under the seat is automatically by-passed?

an adaptor . . .
