Wheels for winter

At the mo we have 18's BBS LM's with polished alloy lip and spokes. With the winter weather and all the salt on the roads it's causing havoc to the lips (ie corrosion and pitting). It takes about 30-40 mins a wheel each week to keep them clean.

We are considering buying a second set of alloys for the winter months and were wondering if to go for totally painted ones, or ones with less spokes and a stainless steel lip.

Has anybody had any problems with stainless lips and salt corrosion, or does it clean off easily?

hmm Iv been thinkin about that with my wheels aswell. As you would probably only use the wheels for maby 3 months?? id go with a cheap set of alloys that you like the look of and will get the job done...the remaining 9 months your car can be blinging again lol

Good point but I've fallen for a set of Advan TCII. Don't know the price as yet but have seen them on an EVO.

World War III is about to start with me and the wife, she wants painted, I want a nice shiney rim. Problem is the car is in her name:thumbdown:

You can get some special protector lacquer coating from Envy that will prevent a lot of the problems you are having from occuring in the first place. Check their site

They where laquered when we got them but had gone all milkey so we paid to have them refurbed and the laquer removed.

you could always get a good second set and swap wheels every few seasons...chrome and other shiney finishes are probably better from april down to october as they stand out more, could also work out as a good idea for back up wheels incase any get damaged etc..
