Whats regarded as the best plugs?

NGK BCPR7ES (3330) or BKR7E (6097) gapped to 0.8mm

Seems to work great on mine

I use R7434-8 NGK Plugs, you'll never drop a tip off these. They can take some serious heat and will last around 40,000 miles (apparently) but they aren't cheap.

Single Turbo/Big Twins @ upto 1.8bar

NGK - BCPR8ES - gap 0.6-0.7mm

NGK - BKR8E - gap 0.6-0.7mm

NGK Iridium - BKR8EIX - leave gap alone

Denso Iridium - IK27 - leave gap alone

Can i assume the Denso are not wel regarded?

Take note, as I spent close to 120 notes on a set of plugs for mine, then I found out about the cheaper versions.

Like anyone will ever be bothered about having "HKS" printed on the side of the plugs...... D'oh!

HKS Plugs are renowned for dropping tips. I know of 2 built engines being fooked by HKS Plugs breaking apart. People don't realise what damage cheap plugs can do.

I know HKS aren't cheap, but they are crap.

Ive heard rumours about the iridium tipped ones melting down, but have also heard people say there great so its a tough one, as jake said I would prob stick with NGK ones

yeh cant go wrong with ngk 8's or even 9's for the boost you will be running

I have also heard of failing tips killing engines.

So what are we saying here, which tips/plugs are most prone to failure?

Unlike the Densos, I have never heard of an NGK plug tip falling off. Nil.

I run the NGK iridiums at standard gap, and I've occasionally hit 1.6 bar on stock turbos. Now that's a tall order. Not a single misfire, and the coils are of a certain age as well.

One should try not to generalise because of the risk to appear like a fool afterwards.

Most of the plug 'incompatibilities' and failures are due to people running the wrong heat range or experiencing detonation.

If the car has been setup properly the plugs are not a showstopper - just get the heat range right.

I run NGK's in my car. I was saying that HKS plugs are crap and I stand by that.

I remember on the GTR forum there was a couple of cases where the Denso's/HKS fell apart and after that there was no end to the scaremongering, with not many people pointing out that the cars in quetion were running a little on the lean side. So can anybody tell me if there has been any cases where they've fallen apart in a Supra? Maybe it's also a case of more people using the HKS/Denso's than the NGK's so more likely to encounter a problem?

Quite a few of the traders on here sell and recommend the HKS Plugs....Whifbitz installed the HKS ones on mine.

I had heard that IF the Iridium tipped plugs break down then they tend to more damage in the cylinder as the Iridium is very tough. Whereas the lesser tough tipped plugs CAN do less damage.

I have put those two words in bold as I think you can be lucky or unlucky if it does happen.

I think though that it's down to luck at the end of the day. And you are always going to get someone who's had bad experiences with certain products.

I know of a supra that had HKS plugs which lost its tip and done a piston. Had to strip engine again. That wasn't running lean.

sounds like i was very lucky then when the tip cane off mine !

I'm running Denso iridiums IK22's or IK24's in my stock setup, never missed a beat, mind you, running stock, I suppose I'm not putting them under as much stress as you single boys

Edit, / I ran denso Iridiums in my FTO without a problem, then Denso Iridiums in my rev 3 mr2 tubby without problems.

Iv got a 93 tt j spec an need to now what plugs to put in mine, bearin in mind it does get put through its paces
