View Full Version : I guess I'll be changing my speakers myself

I've been thinking of changing my front speakers (still on the originals) and would want Infinity components - it's what I put in my other car and I'm very happy with them. However - I would prefer to use the original dash tweeter locations but I know it's a nightmare to get them out. So I thought I'd take the easy option and go to an audio shop for a quote.

Well, the quote was : it would be far too hard to keep the stock tweeter locations. It would mean running wires from the door to the dash and that would mean taking the doors off (not sure how they think the existing tweeters are connected.....). So just fitting the components to the doors - as well documented on this site - would be £141.00 + VAT plus the cost of the speakers.

They are going to let me know the cost of the speakers (they don't carry infinity) - but unless they are 50p I don't really think they will be getting my business. Shame - because 5 years ago they made a good job of fitting the alarm to my Porsche.

I got infinity ones fitted, try sextons the price was no where near this. I had the tweeters fit above the speakers in the doors. looks really smart.

If I'm going to end up with the tweeters in the doors, then I will do it myself. I changed the ones on my 911 myself so am capable (just lazy!).

you can have the infinity tweeters in the doors and still have the stock ones in...sounds fine

ive done that and i fitted the tweeters in the factory positions to ive just glued the tweeter covers on to the new tweeters and dropped the speaker cable down the back of the dash to the crossover, getting the cable from the mids throught the door grommet was hard and the supe tasted my blood i used a metal coat hanger and looped the cable through it and pulled it through (sounds easier than it is ) then the cross overs, i mounted them to the pastic sill covers near the dash they look ok but if youve got dumb clumsey arse mate then they will kick the covers off them from time to time but they look good
