Rev counter jumping

Hi guys. I'm a bit new to this but i'm hope someone can help.

I have a 1994 MKIV NA. The rev counter is acting up between 3,000 and 4,000 rpm. The needle jumps around sometimes up to 1,000 rpm. Below 3,000 and above 4,000 there are no probs. I have speedhut aftermarket dials and a thor speed delimiter. Both were fitted about 6 months ago but i've only been having problems for the last few months.

Any ideas ?

Cheers

Paul
