BPU / Super chip question

A couple of questions , ( TT auto ):search: :search:

I have been told by a guy who fits super chips that it will give around 36 bhp extra on a pretty much std car.

The questions :-

1) would that be correct ?

2) would it make a noticable difference

3) What do you class as a BPU , in the normal way, first steps.

My car has std induction with a three quarter ss exhaust , both cats in place.

Any comments appreciated:search: :search:

BPU would consist of the following:

1) Double decat

2) aftermaket cat-back exhaust

3) Fuel cut defencer

4) Walbro pump

5) colder plugs

6) restrictor ring

Plus a boost gauge and ideally AFR gauge to keep a check on things. If you're UK spec then a boost controller too.

what extra bhp approx would that give.

What is a cat-back exhaust exactly??:search:

Approx 400 on a good engine 380 on an older one.

how much approx would it cost to have this done and would you loose much/any reliability

What is a cat-back exhaust exactly?? Can I assume you remove original cats and the replacment exhaust has a cat in the back box ????

Would original cats have to be put back on for mot ?:search:

Just go full BPU you will love it, transforms the car!! a chip will do nothing for power, leave them for the saxo boys;)

Its all money money money, starts with a guage then a bov then a body kit then the ice ,headlights, induction etc etc. It would probably be less hassel to thake the "purist" stance and stay standard.......apart from maybe ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

You cannot 'chip' the supra ECU. Most likely he'll fit a bleed valve (a £5 part).
Agreed.

I think youll find you can ;)
I sincerely doubt it. More info please.

Just a ";)" isn't very helpful really. Can you elaborate?

Speak to Superchips.
Why? Are they still selling a 'SuperChip' which is just an expensive FCD and bleed valve?

If I were you and money is tight I would leave the body standard for now....not many folk have a standard looking car nowadays they all opt for different skirts, bumpers etc me included, I wish I had stuck to a stock looking car now :( will prob go back one day, check Damon C garage for a classic example of how a few careful mods can tranform the car!

If the car is completely stock, I would opt for a extensive service first followed by essentials, Boost gauge a must and also and EGT wouldn't go a miss

the second cat can go with out the need for a FCD which is how mine is now and is plenty fast enough at 1bar have hit fuel cut twice but only in really cold weather but nout to much to worry about just annoying more than anything

the guy in question said the original cannot be mapped with a pc like many modern cars but there is a replaccement chip available which has been pre mapped, he seems a decent enough bloke who has an alarm / car elec business:search: :search:

does he knows his arse from his elbow though?

You can solder in a pre chipped piggy back sort of thing within the ECU, you aren't really remapping the ECU as such. Its just a piggy back.

Not that I've ever heard of for the supra (unless you're talking about the likes of the Mines ECU).

It'll be an FCD wired into the loom and a bleed valve. Total cost about £100.

You may not have heard one for the supra but it can be done.

E.g, A friend of mine with an SX14A had triple 5 Injectors dropped in, the guy who carrried out the work also soldered in a chip within the ECU to manage the injectors.

I'm not saying you can do the above for BPU etc, but the car can be chipped as such.

Um, I think he was being sarcastic... unless you were also being sarcastic?

who knows , whos the expert, everybody has different views opinions, it would be nice to meet a true guru, someone whos built an engine up from scratch and knows all the ins and outs.

I have been to local "specialists" and have come away feeling , lets say, less than confident in there knowledge of pretty basic components (std) under the bonnet.
