Two tone dash

Been doing a bit painting on a couple of the dash panels that I'm quite pleased with but I'm thinking should I paint them all or not. What do guys reckon to the two finishes. If I were leaving it then I would buy new panels, they ones have seen better days.

Well the top panel was broken so i bought a 2nd hand one that was silver. The gear surround panel was just next for painting and then I got fed up and needed to start crimbo shopping.

I am planning on doing the whole lot but the two tone grew on me abit.

I dont like the gloss finish, looks extremely chav, I would do them a matt charcoal grey or gunmetal colour, to give an unmodified look.

I like the black!

I like the black being shiny for now. I can see where your coming from as I nearly used satin finish black on them. Might end up doing this later on if I get fed up polishing all the finger prints off.

Im sure it will look better in real life than the pictures. But as long as people dont notice its not factory, then I think anything is ok. And yes I know we all know whats factory, im talking about friends, girlfriends etc. I would want to freshen up the dash, yet retain an un-modified look at the same time.

Yeah mate no probs.

Paint thinners and a plastic scraper to remove all the rubber.

 

2 coats of plastic etch primer. Rubbed down with 1200 grit.

 

2 coats of the halfords acrylic Toyota astral black.

 

Rubbed that down with 1500 grit.

 

2 coats of clear laquer. first coat is just thin then a thick layer.

 

Polished the laquer with farecla G3 compound then finished with meguirs 3 stage.

 

All done in front of a heater in the garage.

I might do mine over christmas. The rubber is pealing off every where.

 

I assume there is no way to re-rubberise the dash? The aim with my Supra is to keep it as stock as possible. I want a perfect standard example.

Yeah mate, nice bit of kit. Still bloody struggling with remembering how to get back to some of the menu pages.

 

Need a reverse camera now.

they are truely nice bit of kit, Im hopping to find the navigation unit for a good price but the cheapest found is £500

That'll be a nice addition to it. Saves having somthing else stuck to the windscreen or dash too.
