Guys how much should i pay for 5 hours labour and an MOT?

How much they charge per hour is it about 30 odd an hour for a local garage?

don't know how much an MOT is nowadays to be honest (just pay the damn bill). about £40?

labour from my 'backstreet' garage that i use is £28 + VAT per hour but obviously from the 'specialists' you're looking at £50+ i think.

Im getting my rear dampers fitted, and new brake pads and an mot.

They rekon 3 hours for the dampers which is a fair estimate, and 2 hours for the pad including inspection of the calipers.

Got quoted 317, sounds a 100 high to me and its a local garage.

I was thinking about 250 if it went horribly wrong.

I'm not sure 3 hours for the dampers is a fair estimate. I had mine replaced at the weekend by Phoenix. It took about 90 minutes (although my bill was only for one hour) - so it cost me £270. But that included the cost of the shocks!

I'm also slightly dubious that it takes 2 hours to replace brake pads - especially since the wheels are already off the rears for the suspension. I've not done it on the Supra yet - but I replaced my front pads and discs on the 911 in 90 minutes!

I have always worked in dealerships & I would say £30 is fair for a local garage. We charge £65 + VAT & when I worked at BMW it was about £95 + VAT. MOT's are £50.35 for passenger cars now. As long as that's for front & rear pads, not just one set, it's a fair deal. I agree it's maybe a little over on time for pads but only by max 20 mins I'd say.
