View Full Version : No oil!!!
:Pling:
Checked my dipstick yesterday and nearly shat myself as it read ZERO, ZILCH, NUFFIN - even got my G/F to check it. Bought 5lt and poured about 3/4 lt in and 10 mins later it read MAX!!
Re - checked this morning and still reading Max!! My oil light aint come on as its broke and awaiting new part in new year - any ideas (No spillage/leakage on driveway)

Meant (3/4lt) 3 to 4 litres - soz
When was it last filled? You've either got a leak or your burning oil. Any blueish smoke out the back?
The usual times for blue smoke is when moving off from rest or when booting it. See if you get it under those circumstances.
3 to 4 litres is a bit grim, the capacity is only about 5.5l

i'd take the engine undertray off asap and have a butchers, the trays can soak up large amonts of oil

I agree that is grim but is a demo on how forgiving these engines are, if this had been my skyline then it would have broken plan and simple

Mine wasn't forgiving when I blew an oil cooler pipe a few years ago, one second she was fine, the next I'm spinning 360 degrees down the road with a seized main bearing :scare:

UK or J-spec, TT or NA?
If there is a small leak you may not get oil dropped underneath whilst stood, as it will either get caught by the engine tray or will be splattered back underneath the car.
as said previosly you may not notice a leak as it will fall into the undertray. best have a look there for a start

Nic
Its a J-Spec N/A - (Power seems normal), im just amazed that my dipstick read ZERO but i only put in about 3 litre maybe a little more and it then read full!!
Thanks nic
i don't think your dipstick can read 'zero' mate.
the 'min' mark on a dipstick is the lowest operating volume recommended for the oil/engine. this is usually about a litre below the 'max' mark on the stick.

If you have got a leak then filling it past max will make it worse so be carefull......

You also risk blowing the front main seal, in fact you could already have a leak there, after my FMS went i put in a super bright LED linked to the oil level light just to make sure i would see if the oil got low, as the std light is not very bright, if its working at all:blink:
might be worth checking the oil filter if its loose etc

that's shocking mate, i hope you have big feet is all i can say :d
I wonder what an oil filter sounds like after working itself loose at 70mph and falling off?
