Over the last few days i've noticed a strange noise coming from arond the power steering pump .

Not quite sure what it can be hopefully i think its just the belt thats wanting changing .... Heres the symptoms.

It does it when cold and makes a quite loud sound but goes away once the engines warmed up.

also just out of curiousity the other day when the car was still cold and the noise was quite loud i gave it a quick blast of WD40 and it went silent .

Any ideas fellas ?? does this sound like just a new belt needed or is it more serious like bearings in the pump ?

Forgot to say that the belt doesn't look that bad .

It will be either the belt slipping, or low fluid. If the fluid is low and air has got into the system then pump will make a 'groaning' noise as you turn the wheel.

If it is the fluid top up and bleed ASAP, as you'll soon damage the pump otherwise.

How did you bleed it ?

release power steering cap full lock from side to side & holding it for about 5-10 seconds in full lock repeat this 4-5 times that should do it & clear all air bubbles then once done let bubbles in reservior settle naturally
