Guest AJB52
My car was involved in a RTA and was surprisingly deemed a total loss by the insurers. The damage to the car is a dent to the front wing and bumper plus the steering rack (wheel both face inwards). The car is a 94L, auto silver n/a. Now do I break it and sell for parts or sell it as it is. If so for how much. Thanks

rik
Can't you buy it back off them? (insurance company) I don't know if you can still do this sort of thing, but could work out well if you can.
Guest AJB52
Yeah they have given it back to me, as i'm disputing value and storage was mounting. Just need to decide whats best to do?

Guest Ponty Boy
The wing damage is to the nearside(passengers). All the damage is on the attached photo.
Chris Wilson
The wing damage is to the nearside(passengers). All the damage is on the attached photo. If it's cheap and I can assess the damage in person, I'd buy it for the wife.
Mike
They wrote it off for that? who are you insured with?
Guest Ponty Boy
Yes for that and the damage to the steering, but could be rack or just track rod ends. They Didn't even take wheel off or put it on ramp. Might sell as a whole depending on offer and regioning it would be in, and inspection welcome. Worst this is that I am driving round in the wife's fto, good handling but no power.

Matt H
dont know about mechanical problems, but the body work doesnt look more than £400 if that? Second hand steering rack wont be that bad, total job less than a grand maybe?
Chris Wilson
Insurance companies don't price repairs on used parts, for obvious reasons. Big risk factor, and insurance companies cover their risks + *%

ajazyasin
It could easily be written off. They will want a new wing. If the bumper has deep scratches then a new bumper will be needed. Then going into the mechanical damage. All Toyota parts. Then paint and labour... easily over £1200-1500. Cat D:Where the cost of repairs do not exceed the value of the vehicle but either the insurer or the insured does not want to repair the vehicle. Generally companies will not repair if damage is more than 1/3 market value depending on age of vehicle. Cat C:A vehicle where the repairs are assessed by the inspecting engineer as, exceeding the pre-accident market value.
